Does anyone have the oem part number of the atf filter used in the A340F tranny of the 3rd gen 4Runner?

Just clean it, no need to replace since it is a fine metal mesh screen.

Jamie,

I thought that whenever the tranny is flushed, the filter needs to be replaced. That's also what the Amsoil site recommends.

Thanks.

Roy, on most vehicles you'd be absoultely correct. The A340 is a bit different than other tranny designs. When you remove the filter, you will see that it is not made of paper, instead it is a very fine metal mesh screen. If you were doing a flush or even just pulling the pan on the average vehicle with a fiber/paper filter then you should replace it for sure, but the metal screen design is such that it can be reused many times by just cleaning the debris from the filter. I use brake cleaner, but it needs to be throughly dry before you install it again. Most dealers don't even stock the part because the mechanics will nearly always clean the screen instead of replacing it. If the screen is torn or physically damaged, then it should be replaced.

Jamie,

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, the local Toyota dealers here don't stock the filter.
Thanks again.
