Noisey lifter in newly rebuilt 3.0
Hey Guys,
I just got done doing the head gasket on my 3vze 3.0, fired it up, and I've got a noise lifter. I've driven about 250 miles...and it's still there....It wasn there before, so I was hoping it would go away after awhile
Anyone have any remedies besides taking it all apart again...
Does Slick 50 work?

Do not put Slick 50 in your engine. I hate to put anything but motor oil in an engine BUT,--many have had success with Marvel Mystery Oil, Rislone or good old transmission fluid to unstick rings or lifters. Seafoam and Auto RX seem to be really popular right now. You might want to just change the oil a couple of times too. Could it be the engine is quieter now and your are just hearing the "3.0 injector tick"?

If you want to put in the SLICK 50 then go for it it.........
I doubt that it will fix this problem.........
Did you send the heads in to be reworked at all?
Did you mark the valve shims as you took them off and put them back in the correct order?
The engine valves make noise no real way around that and on the 3vz not having the correct shim adjustment makes them real nosiy the after market enginge books do not provide enough warning about the cups that have the shims on top needing to go right back where they came off or the valve shim adjustment can be thrown off. Using a thicker oil can help mask some of the noise but it is not correcting the adjustment it is masking the noise
Adjusting the valves on the 3v is a real PITA....

From what I've read, (not being a Toyota Expert) the Toyota engines don't have hydraulic lifters, so any additives won't free up a "sticky lifter" the only way you'll get a stuck lifter is if its seized in its bore

Somone might have said this but I wanted to make it clear that the 3.0 in a noisy engine, particularly the injectors. It can be harder to hear on one side because of the air cleaner stuff, but it is equally there. If this is a "new and different" noise that is localized it needs to be addresed.

It does not have the 24 valve option. Noisy engine is normal
