New to Yota Tech, just wanted to say hi and had a few questions

Hello all!
A little about me; I'm 24 and in the Air Force as a c-17 crewchief stationed at Charleston AFB in South Carolina. Currently im in Qatar for another 2 more months and when I get back I'd like to mod my 4runner a bit. I recently sold my 05 Subaru STi (back in may) and decided to have a change of pace in life and picked up a 99 4runner limited 4wd with the factory e-locker. I was able to grab it for $9k with 97k miles from a older retired lady down in miami. The runner was FLAWLESS until I got it offroad for the first time, lol. Anyways I get back to the states in the end of November and wanted to do a lift, wheels, and tires. This is what I had in mind:

- OME 3" suspension lift (even though it's really a 2.5")
- 16x8 wheels with a 4.5" BS (http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku)
or a pro comp 16x8 wheel that has a 3.5-4"BS
- 33x11.50 (285/75) or a 33x12.50 (305/70) Mud Terrain Tire (possibly Dick Cepek or firestone)

I would love to go with the 12.50's and from all that I have read I'm going to have to go with a wheel that has around a 3.75-4 BS. From what I understand I shouldn't have any issues with the 11.50's but the 12.50's are going to cause some bad rubbing issues. What kind of issues can I expect to run into with a 12.50 that I will need to fix (wheel spacers, body lift, shaving/cutting/hammering, etc)?

I would love my tires to stick out maybe an inch or so past the fenders but nothing that looks sloppy. Anyone with a 3rd gen Runner that is running a 33x12.50 and wants to offer some advice or input would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum Ryan, and thank you for your service.

My son is home on leave from his third tour in Iraq until the end of the week.
He just bought a new STI last weekend.

Welcome to Yotatech and thanks for your service!

I'm running the 305/70's. They have rubbed my upper arms a little. I'm also running a body lift. I did have to beat in the front fender seams some also. They look good, but my next set will probably be 285's.

So what size wheel and backspacing were you running? Why are you going with a smaller size tire next time? How far do you stick out past your fender flairs? From your avatar your ride looks real good. These government computers over here, block most every photo for some reason.

Hey --

Welcome, and what you mentioned sounds like a nice plan for your 4runner.

33's will most likely require trimming or hammering of the pinch weld in the front...But, nothing too drastic...

Check out sonoransteel.com or Toytech for some sweet lift packages.

Welcome to the family... Thank you for your service and since nobody else said it... keep your head down and stay safe... lol... sounds like you have some sweet plans for your runner... watch that having the tires stick out beyond the fenders some cops/county sherrifs have real burrs where the sun don't shine about things like that...

Thanks for the replies everyone. I found a few other wheels I like but I'm really trying to find a wheel in a 16x8 with a 3.5-4" backspacing. That seems to be the magic number to tuck 33x12.50's. Any help?
