I think more people would see "cheap thing" as a piece of cheap junk rather than cheaper than a certain other vehicle.

I agree .. "Toyota ... it's a cheap thing" sounds like someone is referring to Toyotas as cheap ... I know what you meant, flecker, and it's a good idea, but I worry that it might be misunderstood ... ?
