Saw a poster at the Toyota dealership today while making an appointment for my timing belt replacement.

"You Belong Outside"

I liked it

The only one i've seen so far that I would put on my truck is the BLACK DIAMONDS one...I live in Chattanooga, TN and know that all my friends/family would get it...that definitely needs to make the poll.

it's a reference to skiing. for the ski/snowboard impaired, here's a breakdown of where it came from. there are 3 basic levels of difficulty of slopes (trails) to ski on.

green circle- easiest
blue square- moderate
black diamond- hardest

they vary depending on where you are. for example, a double black in MICHIGAN (where i'm from), could EASILY be a blue diamond in colorado. it's sad, because i have to drive to colorado to get in any decent skiing. but anyways, the black diamonds are the hardest. in saying that toyota's can ski black diamonds, we're implying that they can take the hardest of terrain without a problem.

black diamonds are fun whether you ski them, snowboard them, sled them, or just plain slide down them.

There are also double black diamonds. These usually involve some nice air/rocks/cliff bombing. Very fun. We do have black diamonds in the high country of N.C. They may not be as long as out west, but just as steep.

we have black diamonds in michigan too, but they suck compared to out west. anyways, i'm actually not a big fan of that one. i don't think we should reference other sports when talking about offroading. yes, i understand the transition between the 2, i just don't like it that much.

Besides, everyone already picks on the Jeepers, find a new group to hassle.
I wanted to make a comment here. Now, i know alot of you have really awsome rigs, and that is great, but lets face facts here. A stock Toyota 4runner, at least the 1st, second and third gens, are already pretty capable offroad vehicles. My dad has taken our 1st gen, back when it was stock, to the top of some pretty hard trails. I think that while it is lame for stock vehicles to be bashing other people, we should still remember that we are driving toyota's, and let's face it, they are the best of the best by far.

Stockers are fine.

A stock Rubicon would blow anything Toyota currently makes right off the trail.

Lockers, gearing and tires make a trail truck. Stickers get you stuck.

If you are just talking about longevity of a Toy, then yahoo, you are right on. If you are talking wheeling performance, "on the mountain" or the "black diamonds" then I would be flying past the 2004 Runner in a Rubicon.

there is nothing wrong with the 4th gen 4runners, guys. they are "pretty capable offroad vehicles" as well.

I definetly agree. I'm a 100% toyota guy myself, just because i don't trust any other vehicle on the road. But a stock runner is okay too. I mean, it's not the best out there, but as far as a stock truck goes, its alot better than other things. As far as the best of the best thing, i was talking from a biased point of view, from having had several different brands of cars, none of which have lasted as long as the runner. a first gen with 250k miles on it, and never having had a mechanical failure. Sure, there have been trail casualties, but even when the head gasket failed in Utah, that truck got my family all the way back to colorado. It's never died once. Wheeling, toys are capable sure, but not as capable, like you said, as the Rubicon. I think that stickers, well, if they are positive they are great. But, i know that i don't care who comes along and helps me out if i'm stuck, be it jeep, hummer, station wagon (jk), i'm glad for the assisitance. I agree, if you are going to bash some one, then you better be sure you have the best rig around.

Also, i wasn't trying to offend you when i replied to your post man, i was just reading, and thought i'd add on my 2 cents. My apologies if you thought i was attacking you. Hope its all good now man. Take it easy, and happy trails.

No slams to the Jeeps, that would be a compliment to them.

Just some thoughts here... would be nice to get something about the heritage and worldwide reliability and notariety that the Toyota's have. Something that sets it apart from the rest of the crowd.

Perserverance; Toughness; Dependability; Toyota

Toyota... Legendary 4Wheel Drive

Toyota...The end of the road is only the beginning.

Toyota...Demand the best

Toyota... Accept no substitutes

Toyota... Accept no imitations

Toyota.... There is no substitute

Toyota... Leave the world behind
