Awesome pics - those new tires look beefy.

Hey, do you use limiting straps or think there is a need for them with this setup?
I know sschaefer3 put them on his rig (before he went SA), but haven't heard of anyone else doing it....

i don't have limiting straps, but my upper arms don't contact my coil w/ the tundra trd struts. they're slightly shorter than the ome's. you can also get a piece of rubber padding or old inner tube and glue that on the inside edge of the upper arm so it won't scratch the coil when it makes contact and keep the noise down. it's a cheap fix until you get some straps (if needed).

So would you guys say that for everything, the front and rear coils and the shocks it was about $500 total or was it more? Just wanting to start putting the cash together to do this.

front:

coils = $160 + shipping
struts = $220 + shipping
studs = $14 + shipping
spacers = $37 shipped

rear:

coils = $150 + shipping
shocks = $150 + shipping

you should also consider a panhard drop bracket and a set of front differential drop spacers...

it's much cheaper if you find the front and rear coils and shocks used, but DON'T substitute anything else than what's listed or you might be wasting your money...

I only have the Sahara bar and Hella 4000's up front. The ride is fantastic, much softer than the 882's and SAW's. I'll check the travel and amount of lift once I get a chance to drive on these a little bit more and let them settle.
Yes, they are the YY/BY coils

This is for the FRONT only. I have the OME 891 coils in the rear, and they do great with the amount of weight I carry. I'm thinking about selling them and giving the Downey coils a shot just for kicks.
Can anyone post a picture on of these OEM Conical Bumpstops? I don't recall the receiving the recall notice. I searched and found that it was sent 28 Feb 2002.

OME N91s are going on today w/ a second spacer - but in the coilpack.

Billies are sold and are on their way to Alaska...

I'll be swapping the rear downeys out for some cruiser coils that i have in the garage. When I do, they'll be up for sale. The only reason I'm swapping them is to just play around with setups some more....

Don't forget the pics, and the write up on which setup you like better.

no, i was planning on going a touch higher - and still may.

the OME's are on, but the guy that installed them (i didn't have time) misunderstood me and only put one set on and not a double-set. however, i'm now sitting at an exact 23.0" up front and 22.25" in the back. the back has sagged a full 3/4" since i measured almost a year ago.

i have a set of cruiser coils in the garage that i was going to install, but from what i've seen and heard, i can expect 3" out of them. i don't want a dragster stance, so i was going to add another spacer up front to get 2.5" up there. oh well... the bad thing is the original spacers up front were the ORIGINAL ones that i cut w/ my dremel. the guy at the tire shop thought that i wanted them replaced w/ the CNC spacers so he threw them away! i wanted him to move the homebrew spacers to INSIDE the coilpack and then keep the CNC spacers on top, but that flew in the trash w/ the spacers.

i don't have any more spacers in stock, and as of this morning, i still haven't heard back from the CNC place that cuts them for me, so more sets are at least 2 weeks out unless i cut some more in my garage.

arggggh.

on the good side, the OME N91S struts are buttery soft. WAY better ride than the billies even. They obvioulsy don't corner quite as well, but the REALLY soak up the bumps. I'm VERY happy with them so far.

got the extra front spacer in - i made a set in my garage.

i then made a 3/4" rear spacer to try to level it out some. i had to do that cause i couldn't get the cruiser coils in. i had it in the tire shop last week, and they didn't give me my wheel lock back. without it, i obviously couldn't get the rear wheels off, and therefore couldn't droop the rear axle enough to do any good. after i get the wheel lock back, i'll give it another shot...

Stock Cruiser Front coils w/ 140k miles and Downey 2.5" lift coils that have sagged to about 1.5" of lift.

Andy,

Are you talking about the front or rear? The Downey Coils in the rear (0-3.5)I received came with the limiting strap and weld-on bracket. I put them on just in case. I went on light wheeling today and afterwards washed the truck. I inspected the front OME struts and Tundra Coils and rear DowneyCoil and ome struts (per your design). The rear seemed okay. But in the front, I noticed that the steering knuckle (the sharp, angle edge has a little bit of yellow paint from the coil. I inspected the driver side and I noticed that the coil has a little bit of scratches that coincide with the sharp edge of the steering knuckle/upper ball joint. Is this happening to your setup? What is the fix?

Andy was talking about limit straps for the front. The limit straps as seen here (scroll down the page a bit) are the fix to keep your upper control arms from contacting the coil.

i'll prob be adding some straps for the front later on - these things droop like mad. i don't have any straps on the rear...

from Steve Schaefer:

The limiting straps hold the Old Man Emu shocks back with the top out spacer. The top out spacer completes the lift with the Tundra coils. 1.5" of the lift is from the coils and the last .5" is from the top put spacer. An outside the pack spacer is more desirable and will not increase the stiffness of the coil like an inside the pack spacer. So with the spacer the OME shock is a bit too long allowing the back of the ball joint to tap the coil on full droop. The limiting straps stop the drop just a hair before the ball joint/coil contact.

straps

Could it be said for someone who does not want to install straps then they should be looking more at the billies than the ome shocks up front? Bama, how much difference did you notice when you changed out from your Red to the ome? Would you say for someone who just wants a lift to give more tire options and some minor off roading that it would be better to go bilstien. I did the fabtech route on a different truck and am in full agreement about the ride quality of that setup.

Are these limiting straps only needed if you disconnect the sway bars?

for MILD wheeling, i'd definitely say go w/ the OME struts. they feel better on-road and work better offroad. i don't think the straps would be a necessity for mild stuff. if i end up grenading an outer CV due to excessive droop and my front locker, then i'll put some on, but until then, i'm not doing anything...

there's a big difference in going from the red 2wd trd billies to the ome's. the ome's are much softer on the road and soak up bumps that the billies didn't for sure. i like them alot. i should have swapped a year ago...

i'm going to initially run w/ my swaybar disco'd, but if they droop too much, then i'll leave it connected. i gotta get some more seat time on the trails w/ this setup to know for sure...

Valkyrie610 (Chris) on yotatech and tacomaterritory is the owner/operator of toyotapartsales.com. He currently has the lowest prices ANYWHERE for the Tundra Coils and the OME N91s struts.

The coils are $84.52 each from him - cheaper than ANYBODY.

He has the OME N91s struts for $185.28 + shipping compared to $219 + shipping at wheelers!

He's also in the works of getting some studs sourced like wheeler's did and then he would stock my spacers so that he could offer the TRD lift as a bolt-on package with a tacoma top plate!

Make sure to give this guy your business when you shop for parts - he's got great customer service and will match prices that you find anywhere else...
