All of these coils make me sick....

Just to recap, so nobody is confused:
2wd & 4wd TRD coils = Nearly Identical & Progressive.
4wd non-TRD coils = Same as above, but not progressive.

UPDATED 1-26-05

I have ONLY 3 sets of studs available. After these three sets are gone, then you will be on you own to order them from either Wheelers or some other source. They have been on backorder for over a month and just came in today. They will only sell me 8 sets total and I was asking for 15 - 10 as a minimum. Their source is starting to get VERY stingy with them. I will post addendums to the end of this thread as I sell the last few sets until they are all sold. After the last set of studs with spacers sells, then I will still have spacers for sale. The price will be $37 for one pair and $70 for two pairs. Those prices include shipping in the lower 48 states via Priority Mail.

All studs are now sold. I don't know if I will be able to get anymore in bulk, so for now you're on your own to get them from Wheeler's Offroad at http://www.wheelersoffroad.com. The price for my spacers WITHOUT STUDS will be $37 for one pair and $70 for two pairs. Those prices include shipping in the lower 48 states via Priority Mail. I am still searching for a source for the studs, and if I do get a reliable source, then I will begin to offer them as a package again.

All studs are sold...

I'll see if I can get some pics of the assembly this evening, but it's not going to show much even if I do. At some point when I have the time and a place to do it, I'm going to take one of my assemblies out and take detailed pics, but until then, I'll have to rely on verbage and borrowed pics.

The top plate spacer goes on top of the strut plate after everything else is assembled and just before you re-install it on the truck. You build the coilpack like OEM, but w/ longer studs and the tundra springs instead of the OEM springs. Then you put the spacer on top (kinda like a washer of sorts) then push the studs up through the holes in the upper mounting plate on the truck, then get all three nuts started, then get the lower shock eye lined up and then thread the lower bolt through it.



It goes the same place as the Revtek Top-Out Spacer (Part Number TOE-2)...

By running the longer Tundra Coils, you eliminate the thick Revtek PRELOAD SPACER (this is what they call it in the directions) that goes INSIDE the coil pack. You still follow the directions and refer to the pics for the rest of the steps to remove the OEM top plate, removing and replacing the studs, reassembling the coilpack, and placement of the top plate (part number TOE-2)

Brian (Waskillywabbit) has a great writup on his page. Note: his coil cups on the shocks are installed upside down.

When you have it all apart, you'll need to pound out the old studs and pop the new ones in.

Hi,
I've read this whole thread through and through. I recently bought my '96 and all four shocks were shot. I took off the front coils and once I disasembled the coil-over, I could cycle the shock with my hands. I want to improve the ride because I feel the stock springs are way soft. I also don't really have a need for much lift because I don't plan on doing any hard-core crawlin. everybody who has tried the tundra setup seems to be getting around 2 to 2.5" of lift using spacers and trim packs, etc. What I want to figure out before I buy the springs and shocks is whether I can get away with using the TRD tundra springs, Billies or OME shocks and the stock top plate with no spacers and come out under 2" of lift? Any help is appreciated.

Without the top out plate, after an alignment, you should get 1.5" of lift, assumeing you have a 4WD.

Sounds like just what I'm looking for. By the way, your site is great. It has helped me a ton in planning upgrades for my 4runner. Now, how about my rear end? Ive heard and read that the Dwney 2" springs won't really lift the rear end 2". Anyone running those springs who can confirm or debunk what I've heard. Realisticly I want about 1 or 1.5" of lift in the rear since I don't really want to throw things off too much back there. Then come the shocks. I've read so many different opinions about what works good in the rear end, but most of those seem to be for guys who are trying to get 2" or more lift in the rear. What shocks should I be looking at if I only want a small lift? Thanks again.

I would use the Downey rear coils with the Tundra front coils and the Old Man Emu Heavy Duty (firm) shocks which are softer than the stock shocks. But with these coils, should work great.

You could try the OME 890, but I have never had that one, so I can't say exactly what it will do.

I received my TRD coils yesterday from www.toyotapartsales.com . They are YY/BY They were shipped last Friday. Great service, great packing, and more important great price. If anyone is looking for these, I would recommend this site highly. btw...The website is a storefront for Toyota of Dallas.

Try the OME 906's. There's a set for sale in the classifieds section. You can also try the Downey 1.5" coils. OME890's will give about 2.5" startig off, then sag to about 2" over a few thousand miles of driving.

Definitely go with OME FIRM shocks/struts and NOT YELLOW BILLIES. I will be swapping my RED TRD BILLIES out w/ some ASAP. I will then have OME shocks/struts w/ TRD and Downey coils.

Oh, and I have enough material in transit to my CNC Router guy to have 32 sets of spacers in-hand in about 10 days!

That doesnt describe my experience. Ive had my 890s for over 30,000 miles and I'm sitting at 2.5". I had almost 3" early on with these.
