2" or 2.5" no spacer?
Hmm...okay. I am a little confused because Gumbo on his 96 4x4 Xcab Tacoma got 2.5" of lift (post #158) with no spacer - that seems to imply a measuring problem, weight difference, or different coil in comparison to the 4runner results (I think). I PM'd him for more info...
(thanks btw, seems like a nice forum you guys have over here)

My extremly heavy 2.7 liter 4 banger and TJM with M8000 only pulls 2" even.
Now the lift most certainly changes after your alignment. It's alot higher before the alignment.
So you should pull your numbers after the alignment and a least one good wheeling trip.

I've had several taco owners using the 4WD TRD coils and a single spacer on each side and they all claimed to get 2.25" - without talking to each other and without me mentioning that number. I guess the Taco really is that much lighter up front.
I've got 2". So does Steve. Gapguy has 2.5", but he used a double spacer on each side.

Which makes sence because a Tacoma will gain 1/2" of lift from a set of 99 front 4Runner coils.
I have a set of 2001 and 1999: V6, 4WD, SR5, 16" Wheel coils.
The 2001 have 8 winds and the 1999 have 9. So now I have cold hard facts that 2001 and 2002 did in deed have shorter coils. The 1998 coils I had were shorter as well. 8 winds versus 9. The Tundra coils are the same 9 winds as the 99 4Runner coils as well as the same hight, the wire is thicker.

I would like to go to 33" tires, can I achieve this w/out a 1" body lift by going with TRD coils/shocks and spacer? I plan on wheeling it, but not to aggressively...
If so, what is the recomended setup?
TIA

Can anyone reccomend who makes the best 1in lift kit?

The auto isn't any trouble w/ a 1" kit.
RB has the best ones - abotu $100 or so.
see http://www.drawhorn.org/pinch_weld_trimming.htm for pinch-weld pounding procedures

cool thread but, dang...long.
There have been a few inquires on the ttora board in the last year or so about using Tundra coils on the Taco but I've only seen a couple who have tried it. those that have had/do have them tried it to support a heavy winch/bumper AND maintain lift. Their ride was stiff but managable.
Do you know what the weight ratings are for the varrious Tundra coils? Downey claims 600# for the v6 and 800# for the v8 for their Tundra coilover kits but these figures are something like 30% higher than OE according to their cataloge. I know the Tacos (prerunner and 4x4) have 4 different rates that available depending on engine, model, 4x4, 4x2, TRD/non-TRD, etc. and the range from around 385 to 520#. I see from a couple of your posts that the Runner coils are taller and heavier than the Taco coils...good to know. I didn't even know they were interchangable.
I'm guessing the Runners are quite a bit heavier up front than the Taco and our OE bumpers only weight about 8#, LOL
the question of whether OME N91s are longer is correct, about 1/2", at least from OE shocks on the Taco.
As for the other question of more droop I would suspect the 3/8" top-plate as they will alter the stock geometry by pushing the shock/coil assembly down giving that much more in down-travel. Several taco owners I know have hyperextended a tripod joint with this setup so limit straps are a must if you really flex things out.
speaking of straps...where do you get them? I need one for my pass side.
thanks

Mostly wanted to welcome Hytenor to the site & see if you have a website, or a bigger pic of your avatar?!

A comprensive list of spring rates for all the different coils that fit on the Runners, Tacos and Tundras would sure be nice. I know all the OME 880-882 series are 500# using the same wire. NWORs Pr coils for the Tacoma are 300/600. Older SAWs used 500" coils but the newer ones are 650 and 675. Donahoe, Camburg and King all use 650# coils now. I haven't seen figures for Fabtechs coilovers. all this for the Taco; don't know about the Runner.
I don't have a website but here are a bunch of pics on my norcal ttora page:

I haven't wheeled with too many Runners, just Demello (in his wife's rig) and one other (SA rig) on the Rubicon last year.

Plenty of taco owners with 2.7s have swapped to v6 coils for an extra 1" of lift.
I'll check the thread, thanks

So I drove over to the land of Bling Bling.
Guess what? I could go ALOT faster with the Tundra/Old Man Emu than I ever could with the Sway-A-Way Racerunners I once had.
I went 3 valleys into the dunes from the Gecko Campsite. I did not want to get stuck with a 5K truck. So I did not go too far in. But it did really well and I did do quite a bit of tooling around the campsite with the sand limos.
Very very impressive how unbelievably well this setup did in So Cal. Coil-over land.
Rockcrawler soft and Bling Bling fast. I can't believe it does both..........
