I need a little help. I have all my suspension parts (front and rear) for the tundra/frank set-up. The problem I am having is that my rear OME shock will not be in until next week and my impatient a$$ took my truck apart.
The front is done--no problems. In the rear i have PP springs and blue and yellow HD Billies. Can I install the bumpstops, trac bar and OME springs and use the Billie (NO WHELLING UNTIL NEW SHOCKS)???? :pat: OR should is the length of the Billie going to be an issue??
I would love to drive my truck before next Wednesday. Help!!

You can drive it no problem. It might be a bit stiff but it will not hurt anything. They are just 1" shorter and quite a bit stiffer.

No reason not to drive it.

So thats...3" up travel & 5.5" down travel. I say 8.5 inches of travel is pretty stinkin good

Numbers corrected for 2" BL.
With those numbers shouldn't you be at 5 1/2" of Stuff and 3 1/2" of Droop for a total of 9" of travel? Which, from everything that I have read, is max with stock A arms.

Downey 2.5/3.5 coils with a spacer or OME 891's for the rear? I don't want a really harsh ride and I have a good amount of weight in the rear. These are the last of the parts I need to finish this...i'm pretty pumped to get this gear on my truck.

My 891's only give me 1.5" of lift these days. Maybe those are the coils that need the spacer.

I use one with them.

891 is best for a truck with 300 pounds of cargo at all times or a Sonoran Steel or Rockware rear bumper.

Downey coils are softer and are more suited for a stock rear bumper with or without a hitch and not much cargo.

With both coils always use the OME Heavy Duty rear shocks.

Isn't the spacer only needed if you've "broken in" your coils..like you have Steve? If I slapped a spacer over mine, I'd certainly be running dragster.

Maybe 5000 wheeling miles down the road........

I would say yes. When I first installed my 891s, prior to install of my Rockware bumper, I had over 3" of lift in the rear. After my bumper install and a lot of miles (more road than wheeling) the 891s have sagged considerably. Right now I have probably 1.75" rear lift so the 1" Cornfeds will be going in soon.

The 891s are wierd...not everybody has the same kind of sagging problem Steve or I have. Darren has the same Rockware rear bumper I have on an '02 Runner, the same OME coils and shocks but says he is still getting close to 3" of lift. He also has a lot more off-road time than I do.

It's in the process of being figured out...what a nightmare though. In a nutshell Canada says that my car is up for the recall and it has not been completed and the US says that my truck does not need it. Canada was nice enough and agreed that they'd pay for the recall. So right now it's just a waiting game.

He's at a corrected 22.5", a full 3/4" higher than me in the front. He has a double top-out spacer to get an extra 1/2", plus I have all the extra weight, dropping mine by a 1/4".

I just don't see how he can get that much droop without the ball joint making the sweeted of love with that coil.

We all have the same upper arms now? Same coils and same lift.

This is pretty much why I never gave numbers much though, I can go from physical limit to physical limit. You can do more than that.

890s work great for me, i carry about 100lbs of gear and i love the ride.

I'm running Bilstein 4x4 Tundra HD struts. The cup came pre-attached and it wasn't removable. I'm satisfied with the lift height.

All I know is that I was sooo close to hitting the bumpstops on stuff, and the bj was just barely gracing the coil on droop.



EDIT: One thing that I noticed is that my coil isn't fully seated on the cup. It's about 3/8" from contacting the "stop". I'm willing to bet that this moves the coil winds just enough for the BJ to gracefully fit between them. ˟˟˟˟ing tire shops.

Out of curiosity, and being too lazy to re-read every page of this post- what's the comparision between the new setup and the Bling Bling (SAWS) setup with front swaybar disconnected. I need some comparison data to convince me that my SAWS are crap.

You don't need numbers just watch how much you lift front tires. It's not in the droop that one or the other excells, it is in the stuff. Think about it, an IFS suspension only has so much up and down. When you lift it, you take away down and give it more up. If by lifting it you have stiffened the springs so much that you can stuff the 2" of the lift PLUS all the stuff the factory built in, your worst off than stock.


How does it feel to be worse off than stock? How often do you drive very fast down sand washes? How often to do jump your 4Runner. That's what SAW are made for.

How often do you declare to the world that you have reached the limits of your IFS 4Runner and then come to Moab and see that you just barely left the parking lot back home.

I can type a million words, but you already know, because you saw it all first hand.

I'm sure you know where the Clasified section is, and while your at it list the FJ-40 as well. A front locker and a set of Tundra coils and a decent rear bumper is all you need.

Alot less than the cost of a 2nd vehicle.
