New member 2002 4runner quick ques...
Hi all,
I just acquired a 2002 4runner LTD with 84k...looks great!
Anyway, the car is mint but I just found 2 issues I wanted to verify with the pros real quick:
1) When I fill at the gas tank I notice there is no "flap" in the gas hole. Is this normal.
2) In the center elbow rest storage compartment...when I open the lid and look to the bottom of the compartment, I notice it is plastic at the bottom with 2 bolts (probably for removal). Was there supposed to be a cover or something there or just bare? I ask because I have an old ES300 that is similar and has like a felt cover at the bottom.
Other than this, the car will be my new daily driver and looking forward to it!
Thanks for the replies,
Snes

I may be utterly wrong about this (maybe not though) but could that piece in the gas tank not being there hurt the tank's ability to retain pressure or hold evaporation? idk. Just brainstorming in the doom machine.

My 2001 4Runner does not have a flap in the gas filler tube, just a hole.
And no, there is no felt on the bottom of my centre console, you should have kept the piece from the Lexus And you're correct, those 2 bolts are to remove it.

looks like 96-00 is one style, and 01-02 is another. Changed at the same time that the throttle body went to drive by wire rather than cable operated, and when the rest of the emissions changed.

No flap in my gas filler neck either on my '02. Surprised me at the first fill up, but I've since learned that '02s did not come w/ the flap...so you're ok.
No felt in the bottom of the center console either. You just have a small compartment that's connected to the arm rest above and then the much deeper compartment below.

That flap is just added protection from debris accidently going into the tank and really isn't a must have piece but it's odd Toyota would remove it in later models.

Great! You guys are the best!
Now I can rest easy knowing the car is perfect. Side note: I still have the Lex, just cant seem to part with a car that is so good to me.
