New jack location?

Has anyone found another place to store the jack other than under the passenger seat? My wife just gave birth to our second son and now both car seats cover the back seats. It would be great, in the event of a flat, not to have to remove one of the seats to access the jack. If anyone's come up with a safe place to store it that's easily accessible, I'll definitely try it. Thanks for your help!

If you haven't already filled it, the storage compartment on the passenger side in the cargo area would hold it. I've got booster cables, and a portable air compressor in mine, so your bottle neck jack should fit no problem!

The storage compartment had crossed my mind but I was concerned with the strength of the straps in there. In the event of a collision, I didn't want the jack to break free and fly outta there into the passenger compartment. I was thinking about reinforcing it in there by strapping it down but there's nothing with any real strength in there. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it another look and see what's possible.

If you have an accident in your 4runner that would be sever enough for you to be worring about the bottle jack coming out of the cargo holder being held in place by the hold down straps, you will have alot more serious things to worry about, trust me. I have seen a few 4runner in wrecking yards that were pretty badly damaged and the cargo cover and contents were still intact. One was so brutal in its impact the right front fender well and wheel were pushed up all the way into the front passenger seat.

If you empty the storage area and put the jack in the bottom of the cargo hold it will be below the opening of the cargo cover. Also pack a few rags around it as well to keep it from rattling around. You didn't mention what year your 4runner was. I did a mod to my '98 as the '96-'98 had a smaller cargo area then the '99-'02. Once you have the jack installed in there using the nylon hold down straps to secure it, make sure the cover is properly seated and latched, you should have nothing to worry about.
