New Exhaust time.....
The time has come for an new exhaust (including the cat - back) I was just wondering what others have done to replace/upgrade the exhaust (excluding y-pipe or headers as they aren't in the budget) I have a 91 Runner 4x4 v-6 with Auto tranny.... Any ideas would be great..... Thanks Larry

Hey Larry, finally getting the exhaust done, eh? I tell ya man.... it's worth every penny. I have a '93 Runner with the 3.0 V6, Auto tranny as well. What I decided to do, was increase the overall diameter or the pipe from the Cat-back, from 1.73'' to 2.25''. I threw in a Walker High-flow cat with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and finished it off with a stainless Tip. Well the tip might be steel.... but it's all bent to crap now. Oh well. My first reaction to the new system was.... Holy crap!! thats loud. Flowies have there notorious "Drone" to them. But I still love it and I did notice an increase of force off the line and a wee bit better gas milage. Total $ spent = $459.00 installed. Iam one happy guy now! Hope this helps you in your decision.

I just finished the exhust on my 84 4Runner today and it sounds great! I welded on a 2.25" pipe to the front of a Flowmaster 40 series by myself, then took it to a good exhaust shop to bend the tail section of it. Looks and sounds great with only about $160 invested in the catback. I am very pleased with this system so far.

I'm getting my 18" Magnaflow and 2.25 cat-back system on monday. Looking forward to feeling the difference. I was quoted 180$ for the whole deal. I thought that was pretty reasonable. I am going to dump it right after it passes the axle. Has anyone else dumped it there or somewhere other than the stock location? Also, the guy at the exhaust shop is saying that the stock cat is high flow. Whomever owned the Runner before clocked the wrong way so he's going to fix that as well. He says you can see right throught he thing like all those hi flows out there. Anyone heard of this?

Only thing I would worry about is the way you said your dumping your exhaust...if you do water crossings that could probably pose a problem in water deep enough to get sucked up in it. Overall I'd say the upgrade in pipe is better...just mostly top end and it seems like my bottom end went down a little even though with a timing advancement and going up 2 teeth on the potentiometer in my AFM

Thanks for all the responses.... I checked with a local small shop, and they said about $400 for high flow cat, 2.25" mandrell bent pipe, and a flowmaster. So I guess I need to raid the piggy bank....

i just rreplced my exhaust from the exhaust manifold back. i got a pacesetter tsx system. it is 2.25 the whole way back. i upgraded to a high flow cat. it was soo simple to put on. the cat back system from pacesetter set me back $250 and the pipe from the manifold to the cat was $100 by itself (when i went to replace it, i looked for the nuts that hold the O2 sensor in, well it didn't have any on it and i litterally lifted the O2 sensor off with little force). all told it was well worth it. much better mid range torque and a more "comtrolled" feel than an aluminized exhaust with 3 holes in it.
