Need some help with Gen 2 4runner wheels/tires
Hello people,
I have a stock 1991 4runner 2wd, 4 door.
I was going to sell her off to get the new 2003 4runner but I decided to keep this beautiful suv..
my old stock wheels are looking a bit old..and ugly and I never liked them anyhow.
I want to make my 4runner look more like a 4wd version and a bit meaner. I was thinking of updating the shocks wheels and tires..is it possible to get any lift from just tirs without a lift kit?
right now I have on 235/75R15s on 15X?
I was looking at 16X8 or 16X10 MB motoring rims
my question is, what is the largest tires I can use with these rims without a lift kit and without the tires rubbing? ( right now I have a lot of space and it looks a bit odd with how small the wheels are.
thank you in advance
Todd

but, I do not know the tires I would need to make it work..
( I am new to this..I am an airplane guy)

Thanks for the words 4x4Fink..so you would go with a 15X8?
do you have a good website for those rims?
or some pictures of your ride?

With a 15" rim you can get standard tire sizes. I too would go with a 15X8 and 32X11.50 tires. You can get away with this set up with very minor rubbing. If you go any wider your going to need fender flares. I had the package with no flares at all and even just with 31X10.5's and 8" rims my tires stuck out about 3/4" on either side. It really pisses you off when you hit a tiny puddle with your arm out the window and you cover yourself in mudwater!! Bushwhackers are any easy fix for that though

Yes, the biggest you can go is 32x11.50's.
I got my Rock Crawlers at www.4wheelparts.com and they run a free shipping deal pretty much every weekend from Friday til Sunday at midnight.
Here is a link to the specific section the website:
http://www.4wheelparts.com/product2....s=TECH&cat=WHE
The ones I got are the TEC51-5883S3.5, 5th one up from the bottom. These are going to stick out pretty far, I have not installed them yet but with that backspacing...they will be pretty far. I'll get the Bushwackers after I can get enough cash...
They also have package deals on 4wheelparts.com to get both wheels and tires...
Lemme know what you think and if you need anymore help, PM me and I can help you some more.
Later man,
Fink
