I know Ive seen threads on this here but I cant seem to get the search to work for me . can someone point me in the right direction please?????

 

What exactilly is wrong with it? Is the antenna just broken, does the motor work?

Check pick and pull, i know a certain salvage yard quoted me $75 buck for the whole setup, but i passed. Stealership wanted something like 90 bucks for just the antenna.

 

I just replaced my power antenna a week ago. I purchased it from the dealer for $45. They list for $54ish...not $90.

To acess the motor, you'll need to peel back the fender liner. Once that's peeled back, there's just one bolt holding the motor to the body. Remove that and the nut on the outside (the one holding the antenna to the body) and the whole thing will just pull out.

 

Not on first gens. You have to snake the entire antenna cable out when you pull the assembly, which means taking apart the dash!

Still, a new cable/mast assy can be had for about $40-$50 or so, not $90. If someone quoted you $90 for a cable/mast, you got jacked!

 

It was for a 3rd gen, yea i called the toyota stealership. I am probably wrong on that on. I don't know i was calling for a driver side visor and the antenna from toyota and they told me $90, maybe it was for the whole motor assembly.

 

Well just for reference, I called a Toyota dealer on friday asking about an upper half of an airbox. They told me $54 list price. I then called another dealer, same state, about 15 miles away, and they told me $73 list for the EXACT same part.

I say always call around to dealers. They have 4 prices.

1.Cost (no one gets cost, unless they screw up)
2.Discount (amount will vary based on your individual discount)
3.List price- This is Toyotas MSRP
4.Retail- What they charge an off the street "walk in customer". Gets them list PLUS an additional markup.

That is why its always a good idea to call around to dealers to get the best price, and an even better option to buy from dealers online, such as www.Toyotapartsales.com

 

This is for my 99 and the motor works but the antenna wont go up and down

 

That is true, but he's got a 3rd gen, not a 1st .


the antenna mast then is probably broke inside the motor. You'll need to peel back the fender liner to access the motor. Take the motor out and unscrew the cover. You'll more than likely find the broken teeth inside which need to be removed.

 

I found this place on Ebay a while back when mine broke off going through the car wash. I was VERY impressed with their customer service and very simple directions for instalations.

It's been a long time but I did these on my wifes old 91 camry and then my brothers runner. (don't remember the year but probably a early 3rd gen) The camry was easy as it was accessed through the trunk. (nice and clean, easy to get to) As mentioned you have to get behind the fender liner for the runner. Those masts are attached to a nylon cable with teeth and that is usually what breaks. You can get just the mast with cable and just feed it in while turning off the radio and the motor will just pull it right in. On the camry it was that simple. On the runner, there was enough old broken cable in there to jam up the works and I had to pop open the case (one screw I think) and clear out some old pieces. I forget what the cost was but it was something like 1/4 as much as a whole new assembly. Besides my price wouldn't mean much by now as its been 8-10 years or so. And this assumes a working motor which it sounds like you have. Good luck.
