Need Help! Tacoma Front End Question

Ok so i was wheelin one day and when i was tryin to climb this huge ledge i heard some metal breakage noises and lost 4WD. I thought it was the driver side CV axle and so i replaced both sides. Turns out they were fine and still no 4WD. Could it be the rind and pinon? i hear no weird noises at all while drving and when put into 4WD.

This is my first time breakin sumthin so I am a bit lost.

thanx...

How are you certain you have no 4wd? No drive to the axles or just no 4wd light?

If the ring or pinion were screwed up you'd know.... unless the teeth on the ring were completely sheared off that the pinion is just sitting there spinning!

u-joints are fine.

i do know the driveshaft does spin when 4WD is engaged. front wheels dont move while the rear is. tested it by going up a hill as slow as possible to the point where the rear wheels are digging into the dirt.

One way to find out... break er open and have a look. If it is the spiders, you might think about re-gearing at this point...
