Need clarification on the taller 99 springs and lifting my 01

So i need to clarify this so i can decide which lift to work toward. From searching i understand that the 99 springs tend to be an inch taller and other years are about that much shorter.

Say i wanted to add a 2" spacer lift onto my 01, and that same 2" spacer went onto a 99, that means that the 99 4runner in essence has a 3" lift and i have just a 2"....correct?

But now if both an 01 and 99 say installed the same coilovers and cranked them both the same amount, with the factory springs gone now they're completely equal, same height...correct?

Aside from those two examples if the 99's came with taller springs from the factory but everything else is still the same(ie. suspension and diff mounting points) does that mean stock their cv's are already at an angle? Cause in my 01 they are completely flat so if i were to add a 1" lift with no diff drop they'd angle a bit.

It seems like a 3" lift with a 1" diff drop is the max you can do before the cv's are at too harsh of an angle. So with an 01 can i go an 1" more? and the 99 has to go an 1" less? .....Or, is the 99 gonna get 4" and be ok? and the 01 still have an inch to catch up?

I NEED TO KNOW ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY....not really but itd be nice to know. Thanks guys

You don't need to worry about your diff. if your only doing a 1" addition.

If you want to do the spacers and the springs, do it then see if you'll need the diff drop spacers. They're cheap and only take 5 minutes to put on.

Why are you going with 99 coils then? It's an inch? Why don't you go with the Tundra/OME lift or the LC's for the rear?

im not, im trying to figure out which lift i should go with and how high since i dont have 99 coils, because if i were to do a spacer lift it would be less height than a 99 4runner.

to get it straight:
the only different stock springs were inthe rear, and you can barely notice the height differences imo.
fronts were all the same
you said you want the highest lift? just suspension, or bodylift as well?
whats your budget? dosent matter?
have you looked at sonoransteel.com and read thru that?
what tires do you want to run?

Best way to figure out what you want is to get underneath your truck, jack up the rear to the desired hieght, same for front and see ifyou like it. Otherwise you can only really go 2.5 in front to be safe for your cv's, and 3.5 in rear.

The '99 springs on a 01-02 will give about 2" of lift. 01's and 02's are the lowest of all the years. yes all the coils are taller NOT just the rears.

its simple, with the 99 springs if you stack spacers on top of them, it will be an inch taller than your '01 with the same spacers...use differnt coils (like OME or tundra and LC) and both years will get exactly the same amout of lift.

Just to throw in my .02 cents, I am using quad cab, non-TRD 4x4 coils (brown brown) and they work perfect and are easier and cheaper to come by than the TRD springs. Lifted me approx 2.25 on my 99 then I used a top out spacer and have LC coils in the back (make sure the ones you get are 7 wraps, NOT 8). Love mine! Also, I am using Munroe Reflex shocks from at 2003 taco up front with 1 top out spacer and took the conical bumpstops out of the back when I put my LC coils in and using monroe gas magnum shocks from a 97 LC for the rear.

so which is it? I have a 2000 highlander, very similar to 99, and from what I seem to remember reading in the past, was that some 2000 highlanders had the taller springs like the 99's, but are the 99's taller in the front and rear or just the rears?

Has anyone measured the stock heights to fender lip for both the taller springs and the regular shorter ones?

Did some 2000 highlanders share the same taller springs as the 99?

E-mail Steve at Sonoran Steel with that question. That is his 4Runner waaay before the SAS.

FWIW; I have an 01 and did the 99 spring swap with KYB shocks. Front and back are a little taller than stock and added 3/4" after they settled. I recomend getting a 1" spacer for the rear, just because they all tend to drag their butts a little. The lift was not important to me but the change in the ride was dramatic, sooo much better. Even my wife, who could care less about how a car runs, asked what I did to my truck to make it ride better. If she noticed then you will certainly. Probably the best work I've done to this thing to date.

The front coils are all different as well.

http://www.sonoransteel.com/front_coil-springs.html

The stock rear coils were also not the same, and they even vary from 2WD to 4WD.

Just so everyone has it straight: 1999 4WD coils lift a 2001-2002 2WD 4Runner 2". They only lift a 4WD truck 1".

There are also different 1999 coils. Some are better than others.
