My lucky day! What are the odds?
In a strange coincidence, two people wrecked their cars, didn't have insurance, and didn't feel like paying the credit union any more. One of them is a '97 Camry with the 1MZ V6. Thought it has 40K more miles than my Camry, I'm thinking about pulling the heads and a few other things.
The other is a '95 or '96 Taco with the 5VZ. The front end is trashed. I'm going to see if the block is still good. If it is, I might snag it. If not, I might just snag the heads. I already have dibs on the 3rd w/ e-locker. My uncle wants it.
I know a few here have had their head ported and polished. And I've asked this question before but haven't really gotten a straight answer. Will porting and polishing the heads on the 5VZ yield any gain? Particularly since it's supercharged, etc? Will it be a noticeable and worth-while gain? Or just 10 hp for $400?
Anybody here do porting/polishing? I'd like to send the work to a fellow YotaTechie.
Thanks!
Alan

Did any '95-'96 Tacos come with the e-locker? I didn't think that was an option until '98.
About the P & P: It will probably yield a modest gain, but don't expect anything earth-shattering. Probably not worth $400. You can do it yourself for probably less than $100, all you need is a die grinder and a basic P & P kit. But it is pretty labor intensive.
