my 05 taco has problems!!!

I dont think the 4low and the rear diff lock work. The other day I was messing around on some dirt hills . anywas I became high centered and got stuck. I hit the diff lock button and the light kept flashing and the rear wheels never spun . When I shift into 4low the low light flashes and I hear a beeping noise and it never goes off . It also doesnt feel like its in a lower gear,am I doing something wrong? I have the auto 5spd if it maked a difference.

yeah, i had this issue the first time i went offroading ... you have to put it in neutral first, i think, and then shift it ... there should be a little card in the visor above your head about how to use it ...

just stop, put it in neutral, and then shift into 4lo. if it's flashing or beeping, then it's not engaged so try it again ... good luck!

Rocky's correct. You must stop and be in neutral, select 4LO and only after that is engaged will you be able to lock the rear end by pushing the button. When this is done correctly it will not beep and a small red X symbol will indicate the rear is locked. Practice it a few times in the clear so you dont have to do it in a stuck situation. In most situations I always put it in 4LO and lock it BEFORE I venture anyplace I think might be risky, 1st gear and traction are our friends

It is not recommended to engage 4 low and the rear diff lock on a dry paved road, only on a low traction surface, if you do it on a high traction surface, you risk damage from driveline bind. Also if the rear isn't locking try turning the vehicle (not on a high tractin surface), this will make the rear wheels turn at slighlty different speeds and allow the diff to "line up" and lock.
