To make a long story short... yes, his stuff is good. I found out the hard way.
If you want the whole story, a search for "Mr. Alternator" yielded these results:

Basically, the smaller the size of the alternator, the harder it is to get it to make alot of power. That's why GM alternators are so efficient at low RPM's, because they're huge. BTW, you can fit a GM alt in with a few very minor modifications. It's all in those posts above.
EDIT: I just realized I don't know what kind of engine you have. I have the 3VZE. I'm sure Tom makes one for whatever you have also.

You'll see me in the threads that Churnd pointed you to, but in short... I second his opinion.
There are a couple of us around here that have gotten alternators from him, and we're all happy.
