More new shoes! (it's contagious!)

I just got back from Les Schawb and I seem to have grown new shoes as well!

I went with the Mud Terrain SXT's at 265/75/R16: http://www.lesschwab.com/tires/light_suv/mt_sxt.html

(pictures are thumbnails, click on them for larger versions)

Before pics (Wild Spirit 255/70/R16 - size isn't a typo):

After pics (Avon Mud Terrain SXT, 265/75/R16):

They _really_ fill up the wheel well compared to the old ones! I can't wait to get these in the dirt!

Thanks to Dr. Z for pointing these out to me, and to FunRunner for being the first to buy them (that I know of!)!

Nice!

Excellent choice of tires, I must say!

I'm next. I'm jealous.

Later!

I'll keep AVON in mind when the time comes to upgrade.

Those tires look great! You are going to be very happy with them, I'm sure. Any trouble balancing? Any rubbing?

Perfect choice!

Someone's ready for the Jam. Yipeee!

Sweet Dood! You beat me to the punch! I got the call from Fedex today- BFG MT's (285/75/16's) should be showing up on a pallet (gulp!) mounted on black Tech1 rockcrawlers. When will the insanity end???? We'll be kickin' ass at yotajam.

Thanks for the "wahooo!"'s all!

No issues with balancing that I know of - I've got maybe 7 miles on them right now - I'll know more tomorrow. (btw, Dr. Z, my local LS's didn't have the Hunter GSP 9500 balancer, and actually, neither did FunRunner's. Hmmmm.).

Rubbing wise, I have a small issue, but it's not from the wheel wells. When I put on my mud flaps, one screw that I used on each side has a head on it that's about 3/16" tall. The tires are rubbing on it if I turn at just the right amount of sharpness to be able to catch it. I'll replace it tomorrow, but what's fun is to know that the spacing is _that_ close.

Noise wise, they're pretty darn quiet. Well, they're louder than the old tires, but with the deckplate and the free-flow exhaust, you can't hear them unless you try. With all the talk that people seem to do about noisy tires, I was expecting these to sound like swampers!

And finally... price. The set of 4, including mounting, balancing, sipping and tax was $731.

All in all, I'm VERY happy so far. I just need to get them in some rain, mud and dirt to really give them a run.

PNWYJ HERE I COME!

Hang on FunRunner! We're going UP THAT HILL!

Hey Sum Dum: I lived in Auburn for about six years. great place to play with Runners. Take the Foresthill bridge/road and drive until you hit Truckee. I have heard it has grown like crazy in Auburn. Too bad, I liked it's bed-room community charm and disassociation with the whole Sacto region.

Sac State:
I still call Auburn my home town, I live in Rancho "most" of the time though. Any time I can get back up there I go. yeah Foresthill road is a good one, there're TONS of places to go have fun off that road, ever go out to Hell hole? Great fishing.

I must be blind, I totally missed the followup post.

Hell Hole is great, I lived on the road that leads to Machado Orchards that wraps around down to the Foresthill bridge. I really miss the outdoor activities in Auburn/Colfax/Foresthill area. I have caught a few good trout down by Lake Clementine and the N. Fork American that drains into Clementine. Got a ticket once from a park ranger for driving through the American River at a 4WD crossing. Ahhh, the memories.....you can tell by my handle I went to Sac State and then joined the real world. Now living in Raleigh, NC. Another good Alpine Lake is called Homer Lake up by Susanville. You have to drive forever offroad and then hike, with canoe, to the lake about 1/4 mile away. It is so reclusive only an old grizzled park ranger knew of the lake when I mentioned it to him. Good to see somebody from Auburn.

You lived on Bowman? Cool. I live (when I'm up there) off Placer Hills Rd just before you get into Meadow Vista. Used to go to Clementine all the time, but when the rangers started screwin with everybody after the Whitten kid was found down there we stopped going. Used to jump off the bridge at Ponderosa all the time too. Oh the memories...

Was it Machado's? It was actually the road that cut between the fruit stand that sold Machado apples and baked pies across I80 from Bowman Road. If you saw the flick XXX with Vin Diesel there was a scene where he flipped a car off the Foresthill bridge into the American. There was always a fire or suicide taking place on the bridge or opposite hillside, what happened to the boy you referred to? Never made it up to robbers roost, but it always looked like a great hike/drive.

Oh, I know the one you're talking about now, can't seem to remember the name though, I drive by it all the time.

Yeah, always fires near the bridge there, it lit up again last week. Havent heard of anyone actually jumping from it in a while.

The Whitten kid was found with a hole in his head down at Clementine back in '95, they never did catch the guys that did it, the main suspect they had is the guy who did it according to the kids who knew, but it was never proved.
