I work in a Navy hospital and depending on your age and travel/relo desires, the Navy Nurse Corps offers all kinds of opportunities.

Good pay, excellent working conditions and state of the art facilities and equipment. Not a bad deal.

I've thought about becoming a CRNA, that specialty is going to continue to boom in the the decade, plus it seems like a pretty cool profession. It's good to hear that others are aware of predicament that many of us nurses are in. I just read online that at this rate, by 2020 there's going to be a 30% vacancy rate for nurses...yikes.

But thanks for the words of encouragement!

Those sound like positions that would offer less stress, I can't blame you for wanting to ward off those early grey hairs. My cousin was a critical care nurse, so was my mom. Lots of career options once you've attain that kind of nursing experience. My cousin graduated a few years ago from Wake Forest as a Nursing Anesthetist. Her starting salary the first year on the job was 100k in North Carolina. I can only imagine what it will be 10 years in,or if she were to move to the northeast. What ever you decide, you have several options because of your critical care experience, just a matter of picking the one that fits your life style best. Nursing jobs are plentiful depending on where you live . I have a buddy who is a traveling nurse, she makes 110k because she works with an agency. I'm sure you know your value better then anyone else. I thought it might be encouraging to throw this info out there.

My Cousins a Nurse, don't know what her exact title is but she came out of the Navy with helicopter training and works in Westchester Medical Center, she makes 100K+ she's been doing it for several years and the pay just keep increaseing cause their are not many nurses at her level, she likes it but if she knew anymore she would be a doctor.

She and her Husband are bringing home over 200K a year but are cheap in fact that one part of the family all makes 100k+ a year and live like their making nothin, OH the stories
