MegaSquirt

I saw this DIY EFI ECU mentioned here, on another thread, a few days ago. After reading thru a ton of info, I've come to the conclusion that it's worth trying on my 3.0/3.4.

If you take the time to read up on this controller, would you offer your assesments, please.

Hopefully this link MagaSquirt Info will work.

that's really cool! i never knew anything like that existed. i've always wanted to do my own fuel programming. i'm going to look into this. i know i'll never turn my 22re into a race car, but it's always fun to play around with the controls.

I scanned over some of the pages, how does it detect knock?

I've been wanting to put one in for a while. I have a buddy that's running one on his Scout and it's awesome.

I can't really be without my truck while getting things setup, so my current plan is to find the mating connectors for the ECU harness and be able to swap the MegaSquirt and stock ECU back and forth until I get things running.

My only concern is dealing with the tranny of the 3.4L auto. To do so may mean that I leave the stock ECU in place just to drive the tranny. ugh.

Don't overlook the MS II daughterboard. It provides more resolution for tuning fuel, full ignition control and a number of ther things.

If you're not up to gathering parts and building the kit, there are a couple of folks that offer either full kits of parts and/or pre-built units:

my guess is that you'd need the daughter board. the way knock is handled is by retarding the timing a bit. the basic ecu only controlls the fuel, not the timing. so on old trucks like mine, i don't need to worry about it since the timing is controlled separately from the ecu.

Knock, being a timing variable, is not controlled by the original MSs, as it was intended for fuel control only. The MS2 (daughter-card) does offer knock and other controls/options.

midiwall, I'll definiantly build mine with a Toyo plug. But I sure hate the thought of removing the plug from my spare ECU. I have hand made plugs before, but none with so many connections.

That MegaView looks tempting, too.
