This is the quote for a mis-fire on cylinder #3.
Plugs (Bosch) $59.70
Wire Set (Napa) $84.25
Tax $10.43
Labor $120.00
---------------------
Total $274.38
What do you think... should I do it? They won't let me bring my own parts (of course) since I can get them so much cheaper... but if I say no, I get hit with an $80 diagnostic charge... which will be waived if I do the service with them. I think if anything... if I do this, I should get to choose my plugs. Anyone out there have a recommendation for the BEST plugs for a 98 SR5 2WD? Anyone... help.

I was charged about 240.00 for a similar problem (bad plug wire) and for all of the same parts, new wires, plugs, tax and labor. Looking back now, if I had known what the problem was beforehand, I would have replaced the plugs and wires myself.

I just changed mines not too long ago ....Bought the plugs pretty cheap from Longo Toyota and got NGK wires from sparkplugs.com ...so paying the diagnostic fee and doing it yourself would save a lot of money...it will only take probably 30 minutes to complete....Btw the rack looks pretty darn nice on your runner.

OK, I am pulling the truck and paying the $80. For now, I have an appointment with Keyes Toyotoa near my work. They are charging me roughly $180 for parts/labor/tax/etc. So it'll be like $260 after all is said and done.
I'm waiting until a buddy of mine comes back from lunch to see if he can help me fix it myself tomorrow in the parking lot at work. That way, it'd only cost the $80 diagnostic + parts. Something like $90 for plugs/wires... so $170 instead of $260. We'll see how it goes.
If anyone is REALLY bored and has some free time tomorrow between 7am - 2pm, wanna help me with this small project? I don't really know much about engine stuff, but I'm sure it's not that hard. Also, I don't know what tools I'd need to bring in order to make this project go smoothly. If anyone wants to help... I have some YotaTech.com stickers and lunch on me! Help me save some money and show me how to do this... thanks for your help guys. YotaTech ROCKS!

i would help you if i was closer but all you need is a few long extions sparkplug sockets some metric deep sockets some antiseize like every one said not that hard to do

pull your negative battery cable for about 15 mins (ive heard less, but hey, just do it to be sure!)

What's funny, is when I asked them how he cleared the codes, I asked if it was as simple as pulling the fuse and negative battery cable. He said that their scanner did it for them. He never said that the cable/fuse worked, but never said it didn't either.

Gice it a shot yourself, do one plug and wire at a time so you cannot confuse them.
It is as simple as removing the rubber boot on the spark plug wire fromthe plugs and using a ratchet and spark plug socket (they only make 2 sizes) to remove and replace, then putting a new wire on.
