Map light removal????

Map light removal????
All,
Does anyone know the easiest way to get the covers or unit off to change out the (2) map lights by the rear view mirror?
FYI the 1997 map lights are the same as the dome light and rear cargo area according to my manual and looking through the clear spot in them.
I didn't want to mess them up, so any advice in getting the things off is appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

I think mine is different from yours but I just used a flat head phillips screwdriver to pry the lenses out, although the manual said the bulbs are supposed to be the T6 bulbs the same as the other dome lights, they weren't

I too wouldlike to know how to replace the map lights, I have a 93 4runner and Itook a look at it this morning and Iremoved a small covering, but that was all that I could remove, I also saw 2 screws that might be possible to remove but it is at an extreme angle and damage woud be caused if I remove them any help ?????????

Just did it on my 1998 a few minutes ago.
Take a flat head screwdriver and pop off the center piece. It's small and it will pop right out. Then you'll see those little screws you can't get to, but that has nothing to do with it. Just take the screwdrive again, and pry off the big cover, and it will pop right off as soon as you stick the screwdriver up in there. It's that easy.
By the way the Rabrig R135 12v8w bulb for the door light does not work for the 1998. It's a totally different bulb, which I should have checked before I bought it. Does anyone know which bulb I will need? It looks almost the same as the PIAA's, but it is slightly shorter and has crimped ends on it. Anyone know what aftermarket bulb works in this or how I can determine what to get?
