Manik or Waag

Got into a fender bender and will be replacing my grill guard. I have a Manik and the body shop says to get a new one the shipping will exceed what the insuracne company has alloted. They can get me a Waag. Looking for thoughts on which one would be better. They look almost identical.

I can battle with the insurcance co to cover the shipping on the manik if need be.

If you run a search here you'll see that there isn't much opinion between grill guards. The higher number of opinions run against grill guards to begin with.

That being said, I tend to like the designs of WAAG over Manik.

I have a WAAG. I like the looks of it. If I were able to do it again though...I'd get an ARB. Hopefully I'll never crash into anything to do the replacement.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I've heard about rust problems on the Waag. Anyone experience that?

I live in So Cal and haven't really experienced much of a problem - then again I kind of expected it and have done some preventative maintenance. I spray WD-40 at the cracks every so often. My lower bar, closest to the ground, is showing signs of some wear though... I've had mine for about 3 years.

Thanks Dude. Mine has been on the truck since '01 and except for a little rust where the previous owner had lights mounted, looked almost new.

Think I might fight with the insurance co. to cover the shipper on the Manik.

Waag or Manik is like choosing which sister to kiss... either one is just not right! Grille guards are crap as far as functionality, but they do look nice. If you want real protection, better approach angle, and something better looking get an ARB or TJM and put it on yourself!

This is more of a cosmetic thing for me. I don't off road the runner that much and if I do it's mild stuff so performance is not really an issue.

Not trying to steer you away from a brushguard, but I would recommend you do a search on them first. Here's one good thread to take a look at.

Personally, I like the Manik one's though. I was in your shoes at one point, but now I'm saving the cash for a TJM-15 *drool*

Thanks for the input gang. I like them and will definetly have it replaced. Insurance will just have to cough up the extra dough.

Sticking with the Manik. Heard to many bad things about the Waag. Seems that it rusts rather quicly.

I don't even have to fight the insurance co for it. I found one in a shop less than 1/2 mile form the body shop. They'll even deliver it. Goes to show the body shop guy didn't due much work in trying to locate one locally. Kinda pissed me off. I called the place and made the arrangements. Told the body shop to make sure the guy delivering it gets paid. He was fine with that, it's just that I don't like doing his job.

You will be much happier with a TJM.

An eclipse hit me the other night (thats right, I was stopped and he backed into me) at a good 10mph and I couldn't even feel the impact. The rear of the eclipse sure did... That alone made it worth every penny. I can't count the times it has paid for itself though. Do what you want, but brushguards only help for so much impact, til they start doing a lot more dammage than not.
