Making my truck louder with a turndown?

Hi i have a 97 taco 2.7 and i just put a thrush welded muffler but its not as loud as i want it to be. would ditching the piping and welding a turndown on amplify the sound a bit? its just too quiet for my liking.

is it a turbo muffler, if so they are only a hair louder than stock. doubt it by ditching the pipe. there is a bunch of links on youtube, i heard the other day on the 3.4 . flowmaster 40, or the vertex seemed pretty loud. straight pipe was pretty annoying IMO,

Nah, its a welded muffler. I was thinking about going with the flow 40 but this was cheaper and on the website the welded mufflers are the loudest besides glass packs or so i thought. The truck runs a lot better and has a better sound but is just not loud. It had a borla proxs and that thing sounded just like stock.

Yeah, you'll notice a large difference with a turn down/no tail pipe

I have a flowmaster 44 on mine, i had it straight piped and it was annoying, fun but annoying. After the 44 it was still a little loud with no pipe behind it, the turndown made it just right, hard to sneak out but not impossible hahha

Oh I forgot to mention, a turn down actually mellowed out the sound alittle. A straight cut off from the muffler was a lot louder.

i was thinking of just cutting off pipe too, but i heard that you would get the gas smell with the windows down sometimes?

I elimintaed the cat and just put a cheap generic muffler on there, and it sounds awsome. I have a turbo muffler on my truck with a glasspack in front of it as a resonator and it has a real mellow note. It diesn't have a cat either. Once you take off the cat it totally changes the sound. you end up with a droning sound at certain RPM's that will make you go deaf.

ok, im not cutting it off now. Yall think that a magnaflow cat would get the sound up a little and make it breathe a bit better? its not bad for 70 bucks

the magnaflow cat's are a joke, your stock one is better, if you are really looking for sound get a glasspack on there, if you want tone put the turndown on there. I only cut my exhaust off cuz i kept smashing it on rocks

how would i do the glasspack? i guess i would need new piping since its on an offset/offset now. I may go with a flow 40 or 44

I have a magnaflow cat and muffler on my truck. It sounded awesome with the 3.0 IMO.

Now i have the same setup on the 3.4, but i cannot comment on how it sounds exactly since i have quite a few exhaust leaks i have to weld up first.

i had to have a pipe bent cause of the offset, can't say for the turn down or cut off from the muffler. I still have the stock pipe over the rear axle, but at idle--the person next to me knows its no grocery getter!

hey guys, im looking for some opinions. im new to the SUV world after having trucks all my life. i recently bought a 2008 4-runner SE. ive but some 20" rims on it, a billet grille, an air intake, and now im looking for some exhaust info. its a V6, so what would sound good? ive had V8's in all my truck, and always ran Flowmaster super 40's on them and loved the sound, but ive heard they dont sound the best on a V6, any opinons on what i should look at or do? any info would be appreciated, thanks
