Magnaflow 14" or 18"
Okay guys I have read pretty much every thread that has to do with exhaust and mufflers and I have narrowed it down to either a Magnaflow 14" body 20" overall or a Magnaflow 18" body 24" overall. I have a 2002 4Runner with dual cats and a cold air intake (will these affect the sound at all?) I am only switching out the muffler so I'm not doing any piping or anything like that. I am looking for the deep tone so it sounds like a truck but definitely not ricey!! I also want it to be loud so I can hear it but not obnoxious. So the question is which one should I go with 14" or 18" Magnaflow? Any quality sound clips would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

I think you'll be happy with the 24'in most so....I've got the MagnaFlow 12286 (24'in 30in overall) and I think it's a little noisy. I've had it for two years now and yeah, you can hear it roar especially at acceleration. At mild throttle it's a deeper mild growl.

I've been contemplating on the same question except I was wondering between the 18" or above. I want something close to stock but with a low grumble. Something you can't really hear at idle but when you put the peddle to the floor you can hear it. I don't want to be going doing the interstate at 70mpg and hear it screaming either nor do I want to get that v6 ricer honda sound ya know what i mean. Was thinking of maybe the 24"

oh, ok thanks! Dang, thats cheap compared to Magnaflows site haha, almost half the price! I doubt any of my local shops will have it for that cheap but I'll check around. Might just have to order it online. Thanks for the info

well the more I read the more I am liking the 18". I listened to some sound clips of both and the and the 14" sounded a little too loud to me and a little ricey, which I want to avoid that at all cost. I listened to all the clips on this website: http://www.pnw4runners.com/exhaust/exhaust.htm but they didn't seem to be very high quality so I can't decide if that is what they really sound like. Does anyone have any good quality sound clips or videos? Thanks!

Thanks a lot kellogg after watching your video I am going to go with the 18" because it sounds awesome! Its the exact sound that I am going for. I see that you have a 97, does it have dual cats by any chance? I am just wandering if the second cat will make it sound any different.

man, that 18" sounds just right and it's not quite loud at all.. I'm just looking for something you can barely hear over stock but still sounds good. So, I think I'm gonna go with a 24" but I might do a 22". When I get it I'll post a good quality sound clip.

okay guys so I finally decided to get the 18" Magnaflow muffler and so far I love it! It is a little bit quieter than I was hoping for but its sounds amazing! It has a nice deep truck sound, not ricey at all. It sounds the best between 1500 and 2000 RPM. I would recommend this muffler to anyone looking for a deeper sound! Here is the link for the exact one that I ordered. Thanks again for all the input!

Yeah I have heard that it takes a couple of weeks for the packing to settle. I would like for it to get a little louder and a little deeper but I would be perfectly happy if it stayed the same way it is now. We will see how it goes but so far I have no complaints whatsoever.
