Like the title says, I'm trying to figure out a way to produce a lower wattage output so i can keep the lamps on while driving. I'm looking for just a glow more of a projection. i checked out napa and took my bulb assembly in there, basically they said there was no alternative. thought about taking an orange sharpie to the bulbs but at the running temp im sure it wouldn't last long. the other suggestion they had was to tint the lenses, but that also means decreased output for when i need full power lighting. if i can do something with the bulbs i can switch out the harnesses and be good to go in a matter of minutes. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

 

You might beable to put a giant resistor in-line with each bulb,you will need to play with the resistance to get the light output you want,also need to find really high wattage resistor so it dosen't melt down,something like this maybe?:

One,nice thing about this is you could wire a relay(s)..so that when you want the full power of the lights,can trigger the relays with toggle switch..and have your fog/driving lights back.

Only other way to do it would be to PWM,Pulse With Modulate...Turn on and off really fast,like the factory does on daytime running lights...I am sure there are electronics kits out there that could do this...Not sure how involved you wanted to get...

 

maybe use one of the dimmers that dim the dash lights. But it would have to be able to handle a lot more power. And would have to be after the relay going to the lights.

Idk about ipf but i know lightforce sells lights, and with those lights you can get plenty of diff lenses for them...

 

I like the resistor idea. But, its going to be a lot harder to setup correctly.

 

I believe that your IPF lights use an H3 bulb. (verify this) Your lights probably came with a choice of 55 watt & 100 watt bulbs. I know there are 35 watt H3 bulbs available, possibly even with amber glass if you want. You will have to order them. Do a google search.
