Low Fuel light keeps coming on

During my recent trip to SoCal I encountered an issue and not quite sure what the problem may be. My Low Fuel indicator started coming on at randome times and random fuel levels. Even after filling the tank I would get the indicator (the fuel pump looking light) cycling on and off. some times it would flicker and others it would fade in and out or even just stay.

Ne ver have had issues with it before. I normally do not let my fuel level get below 1/4 so haivng it come on "normally" does not happen very often. Any ideas or suggestions? It has been off for awhile now, but I would really rather not have to worry about it. I normally check my fuel level using what my normal tank rnage is so I know about how far I really have left on my tank.

Does the fuel gauge needle always read correctly? Is that why you go by your normal tank range to gauge your fuel level?

Thought about that one but if it was a failure it would remain on right? I was puzzled as if it was a sensor failure it shouldn't cycle in and out, fade in and out and even go out all together. During the trip back it seemed to be a bit random and right now after my return home, filling tank, it seems to have gone out again. Will have to keep an eye on it.

My tank level still progresses at the same rate it did before so between location and milage, I figure out pretty much how much fuel I still have. Around town if I get anywhere towards 250 miles on the tank, I'm lookin for fuel! I'll watch this latest tank and let it get a bit down to see if the indicator fades in and out again. don't really like to let it get that low as it is not really good to let your fuel pump suck air. thanks

Mine started flickering about 2 months ago. It pretty much does it the whole tank until the fuel is low and then the light stays on solid like it always has. I know my sending unit is messed up though. A mangled fuel tank skid shows why.
