lots o shaking

hello people. my 2gen 2wd 4runners' steering wheel shakes (not the steering colum) a lot when ever i apply the brakes...kind of feel like the wheels aare going in opposite directions when i stop..i did an alignment and balanced the wheels and the steering wheel still moves left and right. i had a similar problem before, but back then the steering wheel moved back and forth when accelerating and braking.i fixed this by getting new tires.

any suggestions on the order of parts i need to replace first in order to fix this problem?

1994 2wd 6cyl.215k on chassis....new bilsteins all around..original 11yr old bushings on all front suspension componets(front sway bar bushings are fairly new)31" procomp tires

i also torqued the lug nuts to the correct setting hoping to correct the problem..THe Brake ROtors are still the original ones..could a warped rotor(s) be the problem?

any input is much apprieciated.....i just dont want to start replacing parts aimlessly.

i dont get this resolved the 4runner is getting the boot in favor of a v8 powered NISSan truck

You most likely have warped rotors!

Get some new ones. A lot of dudes like the Brembo ones.

if the balance is good and it only shakes crazy when you brake your assumption of warped rotors is probably right..... 215k of original rotrs?! holy crap, they should be replaced jsut to have new ones!

YEAP warped rotors sounds right to me. If you are gong a head and replacing them then you might wanna go ahead and look at rebuilding the wheel cyl and the master cyl unless you know it has been done recently....after that you will think it stops on a dime and give back the change.....

yep warped rotors. i got the same prob. just need to find a weekend to order parts and another to put them on. cant decide between brembos drilled/slotted or autozone's valuecraft. dont exactly need drilled/slotted for the way i drive.

i would probably have the rotors machined if they havent been before....this is a good idea since the rotors are already warped they USUALLY wont warp anymore as long as you dont do anything crazy....they will still wear out evidentually, but if they look good i would have them machined before dishing out the money on new rotors...its a good time to change the pads obviously whether they need it or not, unless they are brand new....
