What is everyone elses opinion of changing the tranny fluid? My gut feeling says change it, but I have heard of horror stories if you wait too long (varnish breaking free and clogging the valve body kinda stuff)

Enjoy that new ride! She looks sweet! Mine has over 180,000 on it and it's been THE most reliable vehicle I've ever had, bar none! And I have owned a lot of vehicles! My current starter problem is the first for the engine, period. And it's only dirty contacts, nothing else. How cool is that?! But I'm replacing the contacts anyway to be safe. Replied to your other post about your new ride concerning your starter. Check it out before you buy a new one. My steering rack went out at 150k, but part of that was due to my lift and tires, so I was told. You'll be happy with your new truck. Great vehicles!

2002 tacoma 4x4 3.4 and i have 79k miles. bought it at 52k miles less than a year ago. no problems at all except for the typical gas mileage issue. but it is a truck ya know? very good truck so far!

i would be VERY concerned.. good thing the 3.4's wont "lock up" if the belt breaks. it will just shut down.. but for you, i would get the t-belt replaced, water pump and drive belts done at the same time. the avg cost is 500$ for all 3 at a good toyo dealer. well worth the $... you could get the radiator hoses checked or replaced and while they are there replace the thermostat to be on the safe side.. all together probably 650$ or less and you wont have to worry about it for a long long time imo

yeah its a non interference motor.......... thank god.. i know a buddy who has a 2004 VW Passat.. very nice car and they have to change theirs at 60k miles and he figured he could go to 80k or so bc he has had toyotas before.. well going down a busy street at 70k miles the belt broke! yep, young motor down thet tubes. yeah he was a dumbass to let it go that long but to me that just isnt enough time. anyway he was stranded and had to rebuild the top end

Sweet, I don't understand why one would use a belt on an interference motor but then there's alot about engineering I don't know.
On a related note to the longevity poll, I've heard that gasoline engine rings are generally good for around 180,000 miles whereas deisels can go much longer. he must have gotten a damn good batch of rings hahaha.. good thing with yotas and hondas are the fact that they are very strict on their part's standards where as not so much for americans bc its expensive.. if it aint broke dont fix it.. btw your dad got lucky.. i have seen few chevy trucks last that long but not the cars, that goes for most american cars...not trucks

I am only at 71K miles on my 99, no problems what so ever. I do get alittle hesitation at highway speeds when I kick it in passing gear.... perhaps new plugs or something would fix that, but I cant complain otherwise.
I have 285's on it for the past 15K miles and a lift....its not a race truck, but it handles this set up quite fine.
