I've used the de-icer stuff, WD-40 and Silicone and my locks regularly freeze up on my 2000 Tacoma. I can usually insert the key but the lock doesn't turn. Never an issue in the warmer months but this winter is the worst yet. Is there any reason why this might be happening?

Have you tried just powdered graphite? Clean it out with alcohol and get all the moisture out then shoot some graphite in there.

 

Graphite doesn't work in Wisconsin's Winters. Plus my truck has two inches of ice on it, I can't remove the water, I need to displace it.

 

If it's the actual tumbler (and not the locking part) you could go with some cheapy keyless entry

If your key is really worn out, that will only make it worse

maybe try something thicker to displace the water, like white lithium grease, they've got it in spray cans, and the really thick stuff in cups, just carry a paper towel in your pocket to wipe down your keys for a little bit, and clean it out w/alcohol first

You could get one of those little torch lighters as a last resort, don't feel bad, on my wife's cavalier (which i hate btw) the whole door gets frozen shut, you can unlock it and pull on the handle all day, but all the moisture around the seal gets frozen and it's a PITA the get undone without pouring hot water all over it

You could try moving to a warmer climate?

 

i used to carry a little bottle of alcohol that had a tip to fit inside of the key hole in the door. It worked wonders in the winter time.

Get a key remade at the dealership via your VIN # and see if that helps.

 

Well, you sprayed the WD-40 in there, so that could be a problem. If your locks are frozen with Ice, get one of those pocket torches, and take care of business. And BTW, I would LOVE 80 degrees for Christmas. But I would also love 30 degrees and snow. Just no RAIN.

 

If all else fails, pull off your interior door panel and take a look at the entire mechanism... It might just need lubricant in places that can't be accessed from the key hole.
