*Locking Ammo can storage*
Eh, So I did my brakes today, And then got the itch to mount these up..
There's a couple carrage bolts with the head going under the bed, with the nuts on the inside of the box..
I have a bolt's that will come out from the inside of the can that will have locks through them. The bolts need 3/16'ths hole drilled in it, I kept braking drill bits So ill stop by a machine shop on my way to work tomorrow..
This one on the left will have my strap and a few shackles in it..
Both
I know Ill find some junk to store in there after a while..

I actually did something similar with my '78 Hilux. The ones I used were nearly as high as the bed rails. I painted them to match the truck. Looked great, waterproof & I made them lockable. Stored lots of stuff in them.

I have one that size i keep in my 4runner. Good for a recovery strap, couple shackles, can of food, matches, small first aid kit. and a couple bungee cords.
Scuba looks like you need a tool box in the back of the truck for more storage!

yep scuba you are right, great and cheap watertight storage:
I have a ton is different sizes:
front one is standard 100 rnd 50cal
yellow one is 32 rnd 40mm grenade
the tall one I think is for 2.75" rockets or maybe mortar rnds, I forget
I have a few narrower 7.62mm cans somewhere that is a good size too...
got all mine free too

Scuba, cool idea. Hey, what if you did a set of short ones that bolted to the tops of the wheel wells?
How's the truck? You going out this weekend? I've got a factory Taco with all the TRD parts I've been crawling. It needs more testing...

I have one of the small ones and on a 2nd gen. Ext. Cab it will slide in behind the drivers seat underneath the ledge just like it was made for it, a perfect fit! Keeps it out of sight so nobody thinks I have anything inside to steal.

Well damn, guess I missed y'all, Scuba. To be honest, I went to bed around 4:AM so the only way I'd have met you guys at the trailhead was drive there last night and sleep in the parking lot.
You pickup truck guys are lucky. You get to build neato boxes and armored this and ammo that. It's so boring just locking the doors in my 4Runner - I can only use duffel bags for my crap. Wait, here's an innovation - old luggage! Alright, I feel better now, contributing a good idea. Those ammo cans are sexy, though. If you fold in a piece of carpet the tools and stuff wouldn't rattle, would they?
Don't forget to catch my review of the 2009 TRD Taco on off-road.com. Coming up soon.
Hey Scuba, do you still have four feet between the boxes? Looks like they might not interfere with bed width at all. A little shelf over the wells with the box on it at bed-rail height would be super convenient.
STICK stuff in it

Yeah, The pirate thing was there..Leaving it though, It does make me look more hardcore!!!
hah
When I finally mount it up, Ill take a side pic and show how big it looks on my tiny single cab, the box is pretty huge.
