Lockers for my 2wd

Hey forum. Look, I need a rear locker for my 2wd 2002 4runner. The lack of traction from the open diff is horrible on anything but dry pavement. I've had lock-right lockers in my Suzuki samurai and the ratcheting and banging from locked to unlock when my SUV is primarily street driven would probably get irritating after a while. I don't know if Richmond gear makes the "non-slip" model for my 4runner, if they do that would be an option. I don't want to spend $1k for an ARB. I don't know much about Spartan but, I've heard they do the same as a lock-right, pop and bang on engage/disengage. I've thought of trying to find a Diff out of 4wd 4runner or Tacoma with the E-lock but they are few and far between. Are there any other options? Thanks in advance.

I have a rear Aussie Locker (pretty much the same as a lock-right locker) and I just put SUPER thick gear oil in it and it is dead silent (I think it was 85-W140).

However, a limited slip diff would be MUCH better for mainly on-road use, it just may get pricy.

Hope that helped,
Nathan

I wish I would have waited to find an elocker or spent the loot on a ARB, now that you are looking for an elocker they will pop up more than you think keep your eyes out or you can search for mighty mouses junkyard thread on here and see if he has one. Agreed that for a DD 2wd one of these two will be your best option Or the LSD would be good too..

My vote is a trutrac from Eaton. It uses gears instead of clutch packs. Here's a link with the explanation.

I think that would improve your traction without wearing on your nerves.

Thanks for the responses and, the winner is.......... Eaton's tru trac. This was the logical choice and thanks for suggestion. It was a little more money but I think a good choice for my situation. I'm going to install a 2.5" lift while I'm at it.
On a side note, why is there a hammer and sickle in the smile icon choices? Weird. Does that piss anyone else off?

I got the Eaton tru trac installed along with daystar 2.5 spacer and it climbs slippery hill's so much better and, is the height it should've been from the factory. I'll get some pics up tomorrow after a wash. I appreciate the advise.

How does the Eaton Tru trac feel? Notice any unusual noises? I have a 01 Taco 4x4 with an open dif, 5 speed and TRD supercharger. We get a lot of snow here and I am looking for something to improve performance...not to mention it would be great to hook up better off the line in the dry weather.

No noise of any kind. I'm able to climb hills I wouldn't have even attempted before. So far it works great. I've had lock right locker's in my Zuks and they bang and pop as you know. This tru trac is the cat's @ss. Love it. Should work great in your truck. Total cost w/ bearing's and install was about $800.
