Length of Dipstick on 2000 4runner

I needed a new transmission dipstick for my 2000 limited 4x4 4runner so I ran to Pull A Part this morning. I grabbed one off a 1997 with the same engine. 3.4 v6. It fits fine with a little twisting , but after checking my fluid it is saying its low. I used the correct procedure (Car running shift slowly through gears and check while running.)

Now I am wondering if the dipstick is shorter for the 97. Could someone with a 2000 measure their's quick and let me know what it is?

Thanks

Yes sir.

Edit: I just checked the parts diagrams for both models from the site in your sig and they are the same part number so that is good.

What transmission? Look on the driver door column for the code likely A340E of A340F.

Anyone? I could also use the measurement from the base of the dipstick to the highest HOT Mark.

I have a 98 a340f and from the bottom of the dipstick to the top notch is 9 inches. ( cough, that's what she said) Don't know if the year difference matters. Thought it might help.

Weird. I wonder why they are different? I hope my fluid level is correct. I ended up adding some to make it right according to my dipstick. Although if i had yours i would have had to add more to get to the marks.

That is weird, I took a few picts of mine , I didn't take picts on the cold down low. But there about 5 inches, I have 4 notches total on my dipstick. http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...310_190312.jpg

OP, are you sure the dipstick from the '97 and the 2000 A340F are the same part number? I glanced quickly and they look like different part numbers....I may be wrong though.

No im not sure. I might just have to get a new one so i make sure i get it right. I ended up adding fluid and its driving fine, but i would hate to cause damage because of overfilling it.

Getting a new one from the dealer specific to your year, transmission, and model is the safest bet for sure.

Yeah thats what I will have to do. Looking at the parts online it looks like there are 4 different dpstick part numbers:

103-34070
103-34060
103-35290
103-35350

Each of those part #'s need to be prefaced with 35 per the PNC and diagram, i.e.:
35103-34070
35103-34060
35103-35290
35103-35350

Wow, never imagined there was so many different dipsticks for the 3.4 from 98-02 . Note to self, be very gentle when checking the tranny fluid. Good to know , thanks.
