Hey, I just replaced my shoes, cleaned the hell outa the drum, and problem gone, get some new shoes, then I bet when you run a rag around the drum you;ll find some knarly guck, I just got two cans of brake cleaner and some emory cloth and went to town on it (I should have had it turned, but hey, tough times) and I'm back in love with the thing again.

Have you tried a new hardware kit for the rear brakes? Theyre pretty inexpensive so it may be worth your while to throw that in there, and lube the backing plate while youre at it before you anchor the shoes down

I'm willing to bet that the "gunk" is caked gear oil. Very common for those axle seals to leak and it will contaminate the brake shoes as well as the sealed wheel bearing... Something to look into.

Thanks for all the help and sorry I didn't post up the fix sooner. It was contaminated shoes, I think from about a month before this really started getting bad I was in there to replace part of the parking brake assembly, I think I contaminated them then as the seal looks good. new shoes are on and it's working great.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
