Knock sensor=bad
How much does one of these puppies cost? can I get on from someplace other than the stealer? does bosch make an equivalent part? There aren't too many auto parts stores around here, just a foreign auto parts store (good stuff good prices) and some wall-mart type stuff. There is a stealer but I don't want to go there if I don't have to. I can't find a knock sensor online ANYWHERE. How much should it cost???

Hey,
I found one at Pep Boys. I've looked at every other parts store too. I think I paid around $160 for it. However, check with your dealer. After I installed it, I found out that the dealership price was about the same (if I remember correctly). So, check with your dealer, then I guess check with Pep Boys. Maybe Pep Boys has a web site you could find it at? I dunno. Make sure you tell them you want the knock sensor. For some reason, people kept on thinking I wanted an O2 sensor.
You will also have to buy the intake manifold gaskets, plenum gasket, coolant bypass intake gasket (or whatever that's called), and a few copper O-rings for the fuel lines. I found the gaskets at either Auto Zone or Advanced (Can't remember which). They had a whole package that came with it all for around $90. Dealership wanted like another $80 or so. I would have gone with the dealership for the gaskets, but funds forced me to go the cheapest way. That also forced me to do it myself. Tell you what, I sure did learn a lot doing that repair.
Well, have fun.

I found the part number for the one at Pep-Boys. It is S8646 made by Borg-Warner. Never heard of them. It was a special order and came out to $160.23 with tax.
Well, have fun.

From talking with Toyota mechanics, and experience with Supras, knock sensors don't go bad that often, (no moving parts), the wiring between the sensor and the ECU usually goes bad, most likely on the engine side, as it gets quite hot in the area. I think I'd verify the wiring is good before I bought a knock sensor....
The mechanic who installed my 3VZE recommended that I change a portion of the knock sensor harness that's attached between the heads, he's seen those go bad a lot, they get "crunchy" from the heat.
