key/lights warning chime stopped working
Hi-
I have a 95.5 Tacoma that has a warning chime that indicated when I either leave the lights on or key in the ignition. Both stopped working the other day, so I assume they are connected, but don't know where to start. I did hit a curb hard right before this happened with my driver's side wheel...maybe connected?
So, where to start...fuse? switch? wire?
Thanks

Thanks. Do you mean the fuse box in the engine bay? I've pulled a few of those and they look good. The owner's man. doesn't specifically identify one that goes with these two reminder chimes though~

Yup the fuse box in the engine bay. Your right i forgot it doesn't say specifically which one is the one for the chimes. The ones for the chimes is the same one under the one for your dome light. Find that fuse and check if its ok.

Even though it looked ok it could still be the culprit. Put a voltmeter on it and see if your getting anything or try replacing it with another fuse of the same amperage. If everything is still the same then we can rule out that it is not a fuse.

Cant think of anything right now. I remember something about there being a black box under the steering wheel that was used for the chimer. Might want to check that out. Hopefully someone else will pitch in and help out.

Did these chimes only sound when you opened the driver's door before? If so, does your dome light still come on when you open the door? If your dome light is not coming on, check the switch in the door jamb. If it's not making contact when you open the door, the ground does not get completed in the circuit.

Thanks! How do I check this and repair it? I depressed it a few times, thinking it might be that.
The key in ignition after I turn the car off chime, dome light and headlight on reminder chime all stopped working~

The problem is that the switch gets stuck in the "pushed in" position. The contacts in that switch that should close when the door is opened are not closing cleanly (likely due to dirty contacts).
Just pull the switch out, and ground the wire that's connected to the back of the switch. If your dome light comes on, and your headlight warning buzzer sounds (assuming you have your headlights on), then the switch is your problem.
You can try cleaning it. I've got a few pictures that show how to do that here. If that doesn't work, just buy a new one.

Cleaning the switch was easy and it worked for me for a while, but the problem came back. I ended up replacing my door switch a couple of weeks ago. It's a pretty easy job, but it does require taking the interior trim piece off (the one that runs vertically between the front driver door and the rear passenger driverside door) to access the connector for the door switch.
