Yep, in Cali you can get cited. My brother was pulled over in his Focus, which is very mild when it comes to aftermarket goodies. He has a magniflow, CAI/FIPK, and some tint... Cop told him to pop the hood and bam, his speeding ticket got a little extra tacked on.

Luckily, in Colorado the cops are pretty cool. I haven't had any problems, even with my exhaust.

Yeah, they're really cracking down on the racers out here - and I'm kind of glad to see it. Listen to the LA news and it seems like weekly someone's getting hurt/killed by street racing.

before you decide certain filters dont work (filter or flow) as well as others, you may want to check out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and click down on 'Air Filter Tests'.

if i understand this guys position, all the test filters (including K&N, Amsoil, and paper) performed (filtration and flow) within the margin of error of each other. no real clear advantage.

that being said, i know that my K&N flows somewhat better, and I'm willing to believe that it doesnt filter quite as well as paper. but my 2.7L seems to perform better, so i keep it in.

I've been monitoring my K&N using a contact paper strip placed inside the filter housing and it's not showing much of a difference in particles collected from the OEM filter and with a recent tune up I went forma consistent 265-270 miles a tank to over a solid 280 from my last three fill ups and I'm still kinda heavy on the pedal.

I have seen that air filter test you refered to. I find it a tad odd. I have seen lots of other people do the very same test and they all show that oiled foam as being far superior and the gause types not worth a damn as far as filtration. Why is his different then the rest?

Then there are proper tests using industry standardized tests that clearly show oiled foam far better then gause filters. Industry standardized tests are tests that have a clear proceedure, specifying specific test media, testing conditions and equipment. Because these are published test proceedures they are repeatable by any lab out there and it is what the "industry" uses to properly test air filters. Like I said, these industry standardized tests clearly show oiled foam far superior to gause type filters each and every time. Those are the tests that carry weight.

I used oiled foam in my Eclipse for years but in some cases, reuseable foam, after a while can start to come apart and that's very bad for turboed cars especially.

i can tell everyone first hand that the k&n drop in does not filter as well as the stock paper.....at least on a jeep wrangler....I thought i was upgrading to a k&n drop in so I check all the intake tubing prior so i could clean it out, but it was all clean at 40k miles....put in the k&n and 10k later open it up to service and the tubing is coated in dust...alot of those 10k were offroading but the first 40k had way more offroading time on them obviously....... goto www.jeepforum.com and search K&N* you'll see all the people that have had the same problem as i did....

Where can you get a Amsoil filter? And is the TRD filter any good?
I am running a KN drop in filter for a couple years now. No problems that I know of but not impressed with any performance gains either.

You can order an AMSOIL filter through my site

www.GadgetOnline.com/AMSOIL.htm

The TRD filter is pretty much the same thing as K&N except costs more.
