K&N Air Filter for my '99 4Runner 3.4L?

Awhile back, a friend told me to replace the factory air filter with a K&N air filter. Any comments on this on whether this is a good move, fuel economy, power, etc?

Forget the K&N on a 3rd gen.
Get an amsoil filter instead (dynoed for more power than K&N)
Then do the deckplate mod to get some extra horses for yourself.

Amsoil is also about $20 cheaper than K&N.

If you don't want to chop your airbox, remove the airbox door and put a small 1 inch C-clamp over the top of the airbox and filter. This will keep the filter tight against the box so you dont get dirt into your engine. This will make your vehicle much louder but it is reversible and you will not void your warranty like the deckplate mod.

Amsoil is the only way to go. K & N has poor filtration but high flow.

Who says you will void your warranty if you do the deckplate mod?

Give the dealer any excuse and they could void your warranty. If you have any engine problems they could blame it on the deckplate mod. We all know this is BS but in my expeirience it is sometimes difficult to get dealers to honor a warranty with no mods at all. Just my .02 cents. Besides, you get the same increase in airflow taking the door off and it takes about 30 seconds to do the mod.

There is no way the deckplate mod will void a warranty.
I have been in there for warranty work and never been refused.
Unless they can prove your mod directly caused the damage, they have no legs to stand on.

LET ME TELL YA WHAT I DID, I have a K&N Filtercharger from a Supra that drop right in, I took off the little door/plastic plate that you have to open to retrieve the filter and also removed the elbow on the intake that run down the side of the fender, and also took off the air silencer and WOW!!! did my 1999 4runner Sport SOUND LIKE A BEAST, espically when you take that door off the filter compartment, its soooooooooooo loud on the outside and the inside try that, AND K&N is amazing the more dirty it gets the more power it produces
