i have a 1990 w/ 112k miles on it. the toyota rep at 1-800-331-4331 told me that the gasket recall is only good for 100k or 8 years.

i thought it was good forever????

I had mine done almost 2 years ago with 133K miles. I wonder if you talked to the stealers if they would tell you different. Good luck, man.

Toyota cuts it off at 100k or 8 yrs but the stealers love to bill the manufacturer so they will usually hook you up even after Toyota says you are no longer eligible. It's all just paperwork....go to the stealer!

Changed once before

Called three different Yota dealers in my area, everyone of em said they would check and call me back. They all had the same sad story Toyota is no longer honoring this recall for vehicals beyond 100,000 or eight years. The cheapest stealership price was $1850.00, so I took it to a local wrench. Resurface, gaskets, waterpump, timingbelt, tensioner, Tstadt, reconditioned radiator, flush and fill, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, car wash, and a lemon sented pine tree.....total $1232.00. One of the stealerships stated that a head gasket was done 5yrs ago (a head gasket). Can you imagine it's torn down and your only gonna do one...class act.

No, they meant stealers/stealership - especially in your case

I asked my local dealer about this issue as well...mine got done just before I bought it, so I'm on my own. They want 1600 for fixing the HG problem. A different garage told me 1200, but mentioned that with the mileage on mine (200+), it could cause problems- if the top were replaced, but the original bottom left in, a pressure problem could result. I think he said the worst of it would be needing a bit more oil, but not much else. Has anyone else heard something similar?

The only pressure problem I know of is the release of pressure off the right hand buttock after they empty your wallet. Although, at 200k, your rings, cylinder walls and bearings are showing some wear (or a lot) and there is the possibility of the 3.0 rod throw, the headgasket shouldn't aggravate the situation.

I've talked to a couple of dealers about my 95, but don't qualify for the recall. But at least the old girl keeps holding together...although she's a little more noisy than before.

I have never heard of that before. I worked for ford and have done a ton of Head Gasket Recalls on their 3.8L V6.

The only reasoning that I have heard on high mileage engines is that if the rip apart the top part and leave the bottom alone, there is a chance that the whole thing needs to be rebuilt. So you would be paying for the teardown twice.

Can anyone explain to me exactly what the head gasket recall is about? I know that the factory gaskets were failing and causing motor damage, is there anything else I am missing from the story? Reason why I am asking is because I called the "yotaship" and was told because I didn't have the original gaskets on my truck, that there was nothing they could do for me. So I am stuck with whatever happens or has happened. My truck has over 170,xxx so chances are it's a little late.

"Am I the only female yota freak?"
