just ordered "Auto Back Pack"
a little while back i was asking about the roof baskets, but after looking into the prices it discouraged me a little. I found this item in the Performance Product's catalog and thought it would suit me nicely (just to be able to hold extra gear for an upcoming camping trip). Has anyone else every used this product or something similar? I bought the larger one so it is 4.5' long x 4' wide x 20" tall.

That's going to pretty much destroy your gas milage. You should see about getting one of those aerodynamic bin things. Like this: http://www.thuleracks.com/thule/carr...asp?location=1
That way your milage won't go down to much.

My parents have something similiar, and it works for them. However, I don't think it's perfectly square like the one in your link. They bought one to haul my sister and her crap up to NYC. They did pass through some rain, and it didn't leak at all. The key benefit of something like that is storage. It takes up very little room in your garage or closet.
