Just got a 4runner
Hi I just got a 2000 4runner 4cyl 2wd auto

You might remember me from this thread
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/how-hard-lower-4runner-41560/
After driving it for a couple weeks I think I'm going to keep it at stock ride height. Its nice riding high. I also found out that it has a factory tri-y shorty header so my header idea is out the door.
I have a couple questions. My 4runner is missing the cover on the map light unit. I think it is a sunglasses holder/garage door opener. Anyone know where I can get this unit or the cover cheap? The dealer wants $150 for it.
Second I want to add keyless entry. I don't have an alarm, nor do I want to add one. I think alarms are pretty useless since noone pays any attention anyways. I searched the forum for threads on keyless. I think installing the RS3200 would be the best way to go, I'll just nix the siren. I'm looking at the units on ebay. My question is, are all RS3200 systems the same? Could I use any RS3200 head unit? I assume the wiring harness is unique to the vehicle. Do you think this would be better than a $39 keyless entry system alone.

These guys make a header for your engine...

Lots of people have had problems with their RS series alarms. My best advice would be for you to go out and buy a decent alarm ($200 installed), and don't hookup the siren if it bugs you. What you'll gain is remote keyless, and a starter kill if the alarm is tripped. Not a bad deal, if you ask me.

Tomsriv,
Regarding the part, try Ranma21 on the forum. Otherwise, try Ebay as well.
Regarding the alarm, I highly suggest you get in the group buy that is expiring in the beginning of March. It is for a Commando 870 alarm system that a few members here have purchased and raved about. See the details here:

if you want in, post your name on the group buy and i'll send you the information to purchase it.
re "useless" alarms: yes, i agree...to a certain point. having a 2 way feature where you can be alerted to the alarm going off is pretty practical. you could make any alarm system "siren-less" too.
btw, the rs3200 in my opinion is a 1/2 step about the rs3000, which is to say, "not very good".
Thanks,
Bob
