JDM motors
#3
Naw, I would rather a good condition OEM toyota motor then a rebuild all day.
Just pull the valve covers off and maybe the oil pan and look inside the make sure everything is good. If you can get a compression test done as well that is another good way to see how things are internally.
I have not got a 5vz JDM but I have got my share of other JDM motors and as long as you check it over good I have yet to be disappointed.
I would do some of the basics while the motor is out though such as the timing belt, water pump ect. Save yourself a lot of hassle.
Far as where to get it, good luck, try to get it locally first and then resort to the internet. www.car-part.com is a good place to look.

well about three weeks ago i did a HG job water pump/timing belt exc. the mechanic that did it said everything looked to be in great shape (the truck just hit 190,000 miles) three weeks later it broke a rod. i got an estimate from jasper, 3,500, and my estimate for a rebuild was 2,500.. probably run me closer to 3,000.. that being said if i fix the truck i want it done right so in the future i can add the trd s/c. thanks for your replies and inputs.
