Japanese 4Runners (Surfs)
Anyone take the time out to check out the Japanese 4Runner sites? Never seen so many radical 4Runners especially 2nd and 3rd gens. What really caught my eye were the aftermarket fender flares. For the 2nd gen there were at least 2 different designs. One about the same as Bushwacker but slightly different and another that was huge! Looks like it'll cover as much as or more as the "cut outs" from Bushwacker, the ones for trucks with exposed bolts. Never saw any detailed close ups but they look like quality stuff. Anyone know who makes them? Can they be ordered here? Thanks

Wow, that was a quick response! Thanks 98_! Actually, I was curious as to how much the flares for the 2 gen cost, especially the large ones! Bushwackers were limited to about 2" additional coverage. The Japanese ones look like it'll cover at least 4" to 5"!

I live in Japan and I pick up my new 03 SSR-G Hilux Surf in about 5 hours (It's 3:25 AM here). I'll try and take some pics today and post them. I'm still searching for a local 4WD specialist shop for aftermarket items. A few people have asked me to look for a couple of parts that are Japanese only, but I haven't had any luck locating them.
I can't even find a trailer hitch for my new Surf. Toyota won't install the US factory installed model and they say I can't order it. I'll be searching EVERYWHERE this weekend for a shop and if I find anything I'll let you all know.

Woodbert,
Somebody had given me this link to SURF site and I had a couple of questions. Since I can't read Japanese characters, I will have to just give you directions. If you go to this link you will see three columns. In the 3rd column, if you click the link in the middle section, it takes you to a list of options. Once you are there, click the "Hight Spirit Version". I was curious about the Black headlights and tailights. I was curious about the descriptions and what the US dollar amount would be.

I hope that wasn't too painful to get through. Thanks.

Momo,
That whole package is 298,000 Yen. The current rate of exchange is 117 to the $ so divide 298,000 by 117. Close to $2,700 for all of it.
The headlight are 36,000 Yen and the taillights 28,000 Yen. Again, divide by 117 to get the dollar amount.
I'm not sure if you can order only the parts but I'll ask the dealer and see what he says.
As soon as I get a few minutes I'm going to take a few pics of my new ride and post it.

Yes, it's a mirror. It has two mirrors. One shows the front bumper and just in front of it and the other shows the left side front tire and te curb or whatever donw there.
My 93 Surf only had the one mirror that showed the front left tire down low. The mirror on this one is much better.

M76,
I'll ask. But I think the problem you would have if it can be ordered would be matching the colors. I believe the US and Japanese models have different colors.
