Irish Newbie Rig Pictures
Well folks, I figuted out how to post pics, (thanks Bob) So......
this is my Surf, standard at the moment but thats goin to change
What do ya think?
I think that engine could do with a clean
The pics were taken today on the Curragh plains in Co. Kildare. I have a nice panorama shot of some of it if anyone wants to see.

Nice truck! I like your front bumper much better than ours. And that electric rear mirror is pretty trick. When I saw the first picture I thought it was some custom wing, but thats hella neat!! Is that a desiel? It looks like you have an exhaust, or well here anyway the exhaust exits the side, and yours is a rear exit. Is that the way all of them are there or just the desiels or what? Either way your truck is sweet! Be careful, before you know it you will be lifted and youl be sporting some MT (Mud terrain) tires!

And one thing I just noticed... how come everywhere else they put mirriors all over everthing, and we get just the usual three??

Hey Austin,
Its a 3.0 turbo diesel intercooler, almost all Surf's in ireland are diesel. The exhaust exit is standard, the exit is at the back.
Yeah, I'm hoping to lift it (+2" springs) and maybe fit some bigger rubber.

You will definately want some bigger rubber when you get the lift on. That was the first thing I noticed when I got mine installed. If you check out my website there are before and after shots with the stock sized but slightly more agressive treaded tires and my truck is just itching for some Duller MTs. I guess I just have to wait til these wear out. I don't know about shipping accross seas, but for the best prices for lift springs are from Mike at xtremeoff-road.com Hes a member here and a fellow 4Runner/Surf Owner. Check out his site. I wish they offered the T-Desiel here! There is nothing like getting a $25 bleeder valve and getting an easy 30hp from a little extra boost!

That third mirror has to be an drunken Irishman's idea
Never seen those in Holland, Germany, Belgium or whatever.
But we don't drink that much
Nice diesel though. 3.0 direct injection? Love those, they have an enormous torque compared to my 3.0 V6. Like the intercooler very much. Nice setup.
As soon as my supra swap is finished I'll come and we can race, excuse me, compare engines
Where are you from? Was thinking about Ireland or Scottland (spelling?) anyway.

Wow, your truck is very nice, I really like that color. Can you take some more pics of the engine compartment from all sides? I'm interested to see how they cram everything in there with the diesel. I take it the transmission is a manual, if so do you know which one it is?

A bleeder valve is a very simple device that you connect to the turbo that makes the car think that its not making as much boost as it actually is. There is actually a decent chance that it won't work on your truck as most late model turbo cars are electronically controlled, but my buddy put one on his 740 Volvo and it worked like a dream. I'll try and find the site that he got his from, it was only like $25. If you do this though I would highly recommend that you get an EGT gauge (exhaust gas temperature) to make sure things don't get too hot. Diesels are made extremely strong because of the way they combust, so running higher boost is usually not a problem. This also why turbo diesels are so common. If you really want to get it right though and fine tune it yourself you could get a air/fuel meter and you could get the most boost while keeping the best mixture as well! One other thing you could check is if the waste gate is adjustable. A simple FREE mod... On my 95 Volvo 850 you could crank it down a couple turns and get faster spool up and an extra psi or two. Or, last but certainly not least! you could do it the easy way (and best, but more $$ way) and get a performance chip. For us normally aspirated engines, we won't get much more than 10hp if that out of a chip. But you having a turbo, it cranks the boost, and squirts extra fuel in to match and presto, an easy 30hp. And they do all the testing for you to make sure your getting as much power as you can without sacrificing longevity. 30hp is probably on the low end as well. It will turn your yota into a completely different animal. I know power chips for Ford diesels here in the sates make a night and day difference as did the one for my Volvo. I got 50hp out of a chip/intake for my Volvo, and that’s not diesel. You should be able to get more boost out of the diesel. Since the T-Diesel Toyotas aren’t really in the states at all (only from canada) there isn't much as far as upgrades for them. Check for Toyota shops where you are and check out what they have! Actually it works with most of the electronically controlled turbos as well. They still use air pressure and use a solenoid valve to bleed off pressure before the wastegate sees it. So you just put the bleeder in the line where the computer's pressure sensor hooks up. On my Subaru WRX the solenoid is also the sensor, so you just hook the bleeder up in line. You can also put in a ball and spring valve and take control away from the computer completely. I'll have to look up some links tomorrow.
