Need some help from some of you, please.

I need to determine how long it takes to shift from 1st to 2nd when you have the gear selector locked in 2nd on your automatic transmission.
The reason I ask is that is I lock the gear selector on my Camry in 2nd, it will wrap up to a minimum of 3500 RPM before shifting. The 4Runner, however, seems to shift early - approx 2600 RPM - regardless of throttle position. I need to determine if everyone experiences this or if I need to have my ECU recalibrated.

All I need to know is at what RPM does your automatic transmission shift at with it's locked in 2nd.
Mine shifts prematurely compared to the Camry. Don't know if it's my transmission or if it's the same with all A340 trans.

 

Just went out and checked mine.... It seemed to shift at 2500. I don't know Toyota's but it could just be that way for gas mileage. Get it into high gear quickly = better fuel mileage. With the car being lighter weight, it may be different, don't quote me on that though.

It's odd, when locked in 2nd, my Camry shifts at 3500 RPM.

Alan, try the test with the ECT button on the 4Runner turned on, it might push the shift point futher up the band. Also, I'm guessing your Camry is a four cylinder, so it has to rev higher to generate the same power your 4Runner makes proportionally at 2600 rpm.

Actually, I only drive the 4Runner with the ECT on. I never turn it off. There's only a negligable difference in gas mileage. Same with the Camry. The Camry has a V6, though. I think its just different trannies and different ECUs.

I just wanted to make sure EL Prototypes hadn't FUBAR'd my ECU from a couple years ago.
