Intermittent P0441

Intermittent P0441
The CEL came on while in the drivethrough 3 months ago. I checked it and it was P0441. Nothing Earth shattering. EVAP Purge Flow issues. Turned the CEL off to see how long it would take to cut back on. It took 2 months. I turned it out about a month ago and it is still not on again. There is no other associated codes like P0446, etc.
What are some educated guesses about what would make it come on so intermittently?
Will start with testing VSV, then gas cap, then vacuum hoses, then carbon canister. Would appreciate other recommendations or preferred order of operations.
Much thanks to your brain power and experience.

Seems like that is one of the codes I had on my 01 runner. What caused mine to come on was I would over fill the gas tank and the fuel would go to the vent hose and flood out the charcoal canister. I had to replace the charcoal canister on mine and that is where some of the switches are located. I got mine from the bone yard and it had everything on it so I did not need to test all the switches.
If I recall right the canister assembly is about $500 from the dealer and I got mine at the boneyard for $75. Basically when you fill your tank, when the pump kicks off, you can go a few more cents to round it to the nearest dollar but don't try to fill it up to the gas cap like I did.
I could clear the code and it would stay off for quite a long time and then would kick on again. Replaced canister and never a problem since.

Terrys87, Thanks for the reply. I never fill up past the gas dispenser automatic cutoff. I've heard of this as a problem though. Hoping to not have to purchase a new canister.
Replaced the VSV about three years ago. I guess it could still be bad though.
Much thanks.
