Intake Plenum Removal (3vz-e)
this question is for Jay, or anyone else whos been where im going.... I need to remove the intake plenum so that i can change the grommet for the pcv valve, and i want to know if theres anything i should be looking out for, or if its just a pretty straightforward removal (granted, a PITA) also, i'm guessing i will need gaskets for various things, so if anyone knows what gaskets i'll need, and what part # that would be awesome. Anyways... thank for any info

I can't help you with your question, but I was going to say get some pics of the removal/installation for it, and the install of the PCV.
It would make a good tech article I can put up here.
Oh, make sure you have your mechanic help you too
She's very photogenic

I'm also interested in the same things. I need to take the intake plenum off so I can replace my knock sensor. I'm thinking about getting my fuel injectors cleaned while I'm at it.
Well, have fun.

Yea this operation is not on my favorite list.
Things youll need from toyota:
Plenum gasket
PCV gromett
PCV valve
(2) Cold start injector supply tube gaskets (aka small EFI gaskets)
Definitally use rust penetrant on the EGR tubes (27mm or 1 1/16 wrench). Ive seen them get broken. Label all the hoses, or take pictures. Once you remove the plenum, use duck tape or similar to cover the intakes holes to prevent dropping someting down in them. You will need to drain the coolant some. Good time to change it. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Take your time.

Ok. Thanks. I'll see how much one will cost. Dumb question: What is a pcv valve? Is there anything else I should think about replacing while I'm under there?
Thanks again. Have fun.

IMO...given the PITA its going to be to take this thing off... ANYTHING rubber under there (coolant hoses, etc..) and the PCV should be done... a PCV valve is only 5 bucks... it would be better to do while you have it off...

PCV = Positive Crankcase ventilation valve
The pcv valve is a "one way" gate for any "Positive" crankcase pressure build up to escape into the intake manifold. Without such a device, all the oil seals that keep your oil in your engine would leak.
