If you read the thread you'd know we already chased that "rabbit".

Exactly. If I was planning on rock crawling this 4Runner or doing some form of racing, then I would have done a cage-to-frame design. 1st Gen 4Runners came with these same roll bars mounted very similar to mine. I simply wanted to incorporate something from a 1st gen in my 3rd gen to seperate it from the crowd.

Yeah, I lucked up. The 4Runner they pulled the roll bar out of at the salvage yard still had it's original pad intact. The zipper had rusted out, so I took it to a local fabric shop were they sewed a new one on. After I cleaned off 20yrs of dirt and grime on the pad, it looked brand new.

Again these pads are a cool accessory b/c Toyota discontinued them sometime ago. However, you can still find them on Ebay for sale. I've seen 3 or 4 for sale on ebay since I've had mine.

I did use nylocks (they rock!) but not the Loc-tite and the really stupid part of this is that I have some. Thanks.

My roll bar is in and looking good but I'm going to pull it out and paint it and then I'll post up some pics. It also looks like 4x4 fink is going to be doing this mod and hopefully I'll be able to do a slight build up of pics from putting his in.

I've seen them pop up in the classified sections now and then. They'll also pop up on Craigslist occassionally.

Also, this thread looks to be about 8 years old, so you may not have much luck getting a reply from the original posters.

Eh, us old hats still pop in from time to time.

4runner9898, to name a few: local salvage yards, craigslist, ebay and/or Toyota truck/4Runner forums are great places to being your search.

I found mine on Craig's; paid $90. San Diego's full of rust-free Toyota parts, but you need to move fast or they go to Mexico to keep trucks with 600,000 miles on the road instead of our mortal American trucks with just 200+ K on 'em.

Cool I have an extra factory roll bar from an 85 I parted out. Been wondering what I could do with it.
